This one went on quite nicely. Start in the center, and make sure the center 'tab' really gets fully inserted. It's hard to see if the car is on the ground. Then work it around to one side, then the other. In the past I've sometimes tried to start from one side and its caused more issues.
It's funny, that principle (starting in the middle) is the same for joining most materials to an existing structure over more than a couple of feet.
Watched some random girl today taking pictures of my car in a Whole Foods parking lot. Hopefully not a stalker...lol.
My favorite was when I saw a young boy, no older than 7-8 years of age, walking with his dad. The kid stopped, grabbed his dad's hand and pointed as i drove by.
Just goes to show the truly timeless beauty of the design.
I often think to myself ... I wonder how often people stop and take pictures of a Tesla, Camaro, BMW or Mustang.
Fair enough. Apparently stock k16s can bend rods so!
Absolutely! In fact the K16's tend to be tuned for more mid-range torque and I think actually might be even more prone to bending rods with the wrong tune...
I personally prefer tuned K16s for the kind of driving I do at the altitude I live vs. the K24s. Less peak horsepower, but big fat lower RPM torque (but still tuned below rod-bending levels). Great power on canyon twisty apex/exits, and I typically can't keep my foot in it long enough anyway to miss out much on the high RPM peak HP.
On the track, different story. You rarely dip to the lower RPM levels I will routinely hit on mountain switchbacks, and you are almost always wringing out each gear to near redline, K24s are a better choice.
Is an intercooler upgrade worth pursuing if you are not going to track the car? I was looking at 997.2 intercoolers and would have a Markski tune and aftermarket exhaust at most for the street.

Yup for sure. These motors are expensive so i'm doing my due diligence and thinking it through....or overthinking it. At this point the basic k16/24 GT1 setup seems to be the best of both worlds in the sense that it retains the driveability of the stock k16 and flows alittle more up top. I've talked to a few turbo shops and not many offer turbine wheel clipping but can do other fancy work.

If you live in Texas and do any sort of spirited driving I think its worth it. Cooler IATs = safer for the engine
I think the stock ones can handle 500 WHP or so but the GT2RS intercoolers apparently flow better along with providing better cooling. I'm not looking forward to doing this mod as you have to do some trimming/cutting but I'm going to bite the bullet.
Yah the 997.2 intercoolers help quite a lot. Someone tested them like 14 years ago when they came out and they were quite a bit better. You would have to dig for some results, it's been a while. I'd run them up to 1.5 bar or so.
Today was a morning meet up with some Porsche friends, and then double 996 Turbo oil service... Polar Turbo is also getting the KW's refreshed and swapping out the front spring rate.
All these 8-9 qt oil changes builds up waste oil quantity FAST! I've taken to filling 5 gallon Homer buckets with waste oil, a hell of a lot easier than funneling it all back into jugs.
Thanks, all. I will keep an eye out for a decent price on the 997.2 units and have seen the results in the threads on 6speedonline. The UK seller that was the place to get them from has creeped up a bit in price over the years.

Beautiful friends, as always.
Those race ramps are pretty neat - longer and lower angle than the ones I have, does the oil drain correctly?
