Germany still has hundreds and hundreds of miles of unrestricted speed sections of the autobahn. That is why they have always been sticklers for car inspections, and very much opposed to uncertified modifications.

The kind of inspections they do there will probably never show up in the United States.

In my states and many others nearby, they’ve started reducing the number of things they inspect on cars.

Seems a little excessive having to re-certify for more power, I mean, what does it really matter?

Same here in WA- they completely got rid of the annual inspections in 2018 or 2019. Surprised the hell out of me.

Well, this is Germany .... and compared to Switzerland, its still relaxed here.

Its the country of lawyers and regulations. In fact its EU, not only Germany. A car is seen as a potential dangerous device, which needs to meet some essential requirements to be seen as safe.
When a car is placed on the street, it comes with a type approval of the manufacturer, and you are not allowed making any significant modifications which alters the essential performace crteria.

So changing power or top speed is such a modification. Without approval the car is illegal and you personally responsible in case of an accident. Even it was not your fault.

The car it now approved road legal with a Top Speed of 200mph and we still have lots of road where you're allowed to drive that fast. Well... I won't ... not on a public road :-)

Yes, however its called 'Notified Body' where TÜV is only one (the most prominent) of a number of similar service providers.

Man I miss Germany. I lived in Bad Kreuznach and Wiesbaden from 2000-2002. It is an absolutely beautiful country, just wish I was not 19 when I was stationed there. All I explored was bars and women.

Because if you triple the power, but don't upgrade the brakes or suspension, that's not a good thing

When the car can legally be driven at 200+ MPH on public highways traveling along side families in mini-vans it matters. It is all about safety, and rightly so. The Germans know what they doing.

I would personally jump through faming hoops of fire to be able to drive that fast on the highways here in the USA.

Agreed.

I'm all for safety inspections, but they cut those off in BC in 1982. Still have that sticker on my trailer...

Considering the amount of rust buckets here on the road, I'd be happy to have a very basic safety inspection yearly.

I mean, it was a ton of fun, but living there I had opportunities to see things like the Nuremberg ring, castles, and tour Europe. I chose to tour Europe buy the way of women. LoL
