Pretty happy with my CMS box; LSD most certainly helped.
By the way, I like the B18C5R in your profile pic.

Throwing down, lol! Well, I totally disagree. I've owned several cars with tiptronics and universally they sucked. Lazy, poor shift logic, not sporty at all. For a DD in a city with a ton of traffic, yeah, ok but there are still far better auto boxes. The PDK is nice but for a sports car I want maximum engagement, which means rowing the gears myself. I don't find the 6MT in the 996 to be bad at all. Feels the same as all the other German MT's I've had. The Numeric shifter does give it quite a bit more mechanical feedback, which is nice.

Well, an LSD doesn't impact how the transmission shifts. In street driving the open diff really didn't matter, I only noticed it on track, where I'd spin the inside rear wheel on corner exit. Now that I have a Guards LSD, I never spin that inside rear wheel anymore.

I think the LSD impacts how you shift; as noted, breaking the inside rear wheel was fairly apparent on the street too - LSD remedied that, so now I find I can really put the power down more so than I could with an open diff, shifting faster and applying more throttle than before.
Then that became somewhat moot when the front diff was removed.

It hooks up, but also seems to break free a lot easier - my short term fix is going to a 19" wheel with a higher load rating that will hopefully improve traction.
This point was very clearly made when I let Adam drive it; when he passed me, in second, he broke free and bounced off the limiter. Granted it was a bit cold, around 3c, but by the time we got to that point, we'd driven 10kms, so there was some heat in the tyres, but it still wasn't hooking up as I would have liked.

I drive my Tiptronic in manual mode 95% of the time. The only time I leave it in auto is cruising on the highway or in traffic.
On the race track is where a Tiptronic really shines. Even in manual mode it will hold shifts all the way until redline. Also because it has a torque converter there's no loss of power at the shift points. Keep your foot flat and the car just keeps accelerating near seamlessly. On the track it will shift nearly as fast as the original PDK Porsche came out with about 15 years ago. The newest PDK-S is much quicker.
Manual versus automatic/PDK transmission is purely a personal choice.

I agree with you. I’m not mad at the tip. Are there better options, oh without a doubt but for 20+ year old tech, it’s still good enough. I’m not going after a world endurance championship and my heel/toe shifting skills aren’t the best.
How a Tiptronic performs is directly related to how it is being driven. If it's being driven slow and lazy it will shift slow and lazy until you get on it and stay on it and then the TCU will select a more aggressive automatic map.
