What can I say?

First truck I bought when I went to northern Alberta to work in the oil fields, which, incidentally, were all off road.

Weather was rarely good after October too; most of the g wagens here are only used on the street, but I can say in the twelve years I was up there, I never saw a single g wagen in the field.

My comments were with respect to the 4wd system, which when paired with a 6l engine, is the best I have ever driven. I am sure that if one was equipped to use off road, proper tyres, modded exhaust that wouldn't get caught on high points, it would be fantastic, however, I have yet to drive one so configured.

Cheers,

From what I can tell, it's direct fit.
I also have a W210 e55 to which I'd like to award a supercharger for its years of faithful service. Kleeman 10k + kit iis out of the question. I just want to strap the factory supercharger on and detune the charge with a larger pulley. I think that's the most cost effective option rather than swapping engines.
I had a G350TD about 15 years ago and loved it. No the G-Class was not meant to have 500+bhp IMHO. I drove a G63 for a while and was not impressed by its overall character. IMHO the G55 is the sweet spot for modern day driving especially given the price difference between the G500 and G55 and G63. The G320 feels like it needs a push.
Regarding how many 911 turbos is the appropriate number to own.... After watching Doug's latest on the 997tt maybe a 930-996-997 turbo stable makes better sense.
Cars must tick the following boxes for me: fun factor, reliability, maintenance cost and no depreciation.

A new 5.4l, complete is no longer available, MB quoted $25k for a long block, a bit spendy. Complete unit on ebay with 70k miles about $4300cdn, not it isn't clear if the 'fixes' have been applied.

At this price point, it is probably better to go with Kleeman cams, headers and tune and 'suffer' with 360hp with the 3.5 - jury is still out, as the Kleeman cams, tune and headers on the 5.4 is good for 460hp...

I think there is a fundamental difference between driving a truck that 'looks' good, versus one that is truly doing truck duty. There used to be a fellow who lived up the road from me that had an older G with a 3 litre 5 cylinder turbo diesel in it - it was anemic on the road, but in low range, with everything locked up, I was pretty sure it would climb a near vertical wall, very truck like. Three of my diesels make more than 500hp, 1000+ ft/lbs - neat in a straight line, a$$ in the corners, very capable off road; a pretty 500hp $300k CDN truck doesn't really do it for me, I'd be afraid to hurt it.

930/996/997 is still three turbos...

Never considered cams and headers for the E55. I'm surprised they make that big of a difference. But doesn't low end torque suffer? My E34 M5 has 280 cams which make it lackluster around town. I need to wring it's f#^^g neck to feel anything.

Here in Japan diesels are largely frowned on for private car use. I know they can be torque monsters with the right tune. But getting them pass inspection might be a challenge.

I know too many cars is totally a rich world problem. Better that using coat hangers and duct tape to keep my old rusty Rabbit together.

Still sort of working it out to see how feasible it really is; the e550 has a 2.xx diff, the 350 has a 3.07, that will help the bottom end a lot... everything else appears to be exactly the same, and it has a seven speed... I'm thinking about selling the M5, as it is truly useless in the rain, and doing this swap so I have an awd V8 (car) year round ... the 350 really isn't worth much to sell, however, it only has 24kms on it, so could be a 'cheap' sleeper, as it were... and it is very nice to drive on the highway, just needs more.

If I lived in Japan, I would have a trucking company.

996turbo and 996turbo adjacent topics.
I ordered a set of filters for the car I just parked. Pretty dumb right.

Think it may be the top right shock bearing... No effect on alignment and only clunks on sharp impacts. Either way, it'll need an alignment after, so going in for a look see....

In other news....

Just left the stealership and there is most certainly a top bearing issue, and possibly even a right front strut issue, hopefully not too spendy, cashing in my credit for selling a complete x50 engine for them.

991 thread currently has guys talking about being CPAs...

I, personally, think it brings the community together, but I also get why it gets irritating when it goes completely off the rails.
