Probably falling somewhere between completely legal and getting constantly hassled, have you looked at doing a 'decal plate'? Many higher end sign or car wrap/clear bra shops have printers that can print directly to automotive vinyl... Scan (or photograph) your plate, print it out full size or a bit smaller (90%), apply it like graphics to your front end.
Seems a shame to mess up that gorgeous GT2-look front end, and imho these look *way* better than the tow-hook mounts, and is completely removable.
I don't have a picture handy, but you can find several examples on rennlist of this.
Absolutely agreed, however, since I made it and the Province didn't issue it, the police do not accept it.
I can actually print a mylar one myself. I was also thinking that I could just keep 'losing it' every six weeks and have the Province issue a new one - driving plate free until the new one arrives...
i just dremeled the top pivot clip out... pulled the pin out of the top and bottom and was able to get the door out from the top of the heater core housing... took a couple minutes... then i putty the top of the clip back in to hold it...
i think it looks great... as much as i love the clean lines of a no front plate, i also run the same front plate bracket because i don't want the hassle either... i already have tint on my front windows which is illegal here and most of the time the police here let it slide... i feel like as you start to add up the number of visible violations on your car, it will attract unwanted attention from the police... illegal tint, missing front plate, tinted rear plate cover, blacked out headlights, loud exhaust, a cop behind you will start to question what else you are doing is illegal and can now pull you over... no thanks, the less attention from them, the better...
That is sound logic. I should lobby the Government to remove front plates forever.
Yeah, not sure. The Denver metro meter maids certainly don't accept a plate on the dash, or a plate on the skid plate of a truck.... f**ckers. But that said, I haven't run a front plate in Colorado for 35 years and I have *never* had real police or state patrol care. Only city parking enforcement, particularly in Denver and Boulder.
I think the decal plates might be close enough that they don't take a careful look.
Cops could care less, they'll only ding you on it if they pull you over for something else and are a dick to them. The meter maids are going to write that ticket every single time. Since the street outside my office where I park is patrolled it's not worth the $75 ticket.
Here is another option. I normally keep my plate in the front trunk, but have it with me in case I am ever asked to run a front plate. I carefully measured and drilled the lip, mounted the receptacle behind the holes and plugged the holes. The plate assembly slips right in if needed.
here in CA the front plate deal has everything to do with where you reside geographically. i figure i've had 10 no front plate tickets in 20 years and they all happen in major metro areas of SoCal unless a cop wants to use a no plate as an "excuse". which they can and will do, but again. geography matters ( and age of driver i suspect also ).
i keep my tow hook mounted plate in the frunk if and when needed. last time i was cited was in the malibu mountains area just after the fires that claimed my house. a very remote part of mulholland had finally opened up and i was for the very first time viewing the devastation and what remained of the property, when a chp with NOTHING to do ( parked and hungrily waiting like a bear for motorcycling salmon ) immediately u-turned and redlit me.
i knew i had done nothing wrong ( was going maybe 20mph ) and he lambasted me for no plate and as i explained that my now burned house was 200 yards from the "scene of my crime" he said "too bad" as he handed me a 25 fixit ticket. this after i pulled the plate out of the frunk to show him i had one and was going to wash my car ( reason it wasn't affixed ( yeah right ).
rookie ***hole that he was.
right now in LA? no one cares about license plates. they're too busy burning cop cars.
You're fortunate because 5-6 feet further back and the bird bomb would have been much harder to clean up.
Lol why even mention that? That just reminded me of the er dock that told me when i got shot in the knee, "youre fortunate it was a .22 if it was a 9 you wouldn't have a right knee".
