Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I wanted to upgrade my audio system to something a bit more modern (but single din). I looked at all the usual suspects pioneer, Sony, Alpine, blaupunkt, etc... And I just couldn't do it. As much as I wanted to do it, none of the head units were even close to looking oem. I just love how the dash looks with the stock head unit. I had pretty much given up but this looks promising!
Thanks again

They are OEM'ed by http://www.kienzle.de/p_cmn_audio.html. If you'll notice, they also make similar VDO-branded units with blue backlighting. I have no idea what's up with the Continental tire branding. But I like the VDO association.
I was considering simply getting a Becker CR-220 or CDR-220 and adding an aux input, but I was discouraged by the price of what nice examples are going for these days (plus the additional cost of the aux-in / BT module).
The outputs are speaker-level (same as the inputs to the Bose amp, if I understand correctly) and not RCA -- it is very "OEM style".
I bought the unit, a plug-and-play wiring harness, and the Porsche sticker all from "Bergvill F/X" in Norway:
Earlier this week, I was showing my Turbo to a prospective buyer and the starter failed. No warning. Just failed. Made a growling noise by not engaging with the ring gear. after several tries, it eventually it worked and my prospect loved the car, so I took it to my (distant) mechanic for a remanufactured starter.
Boom. The remanufacturing facility had one part number it was using. so a standard 996 starter was delivered - 30mm longer than a Turbo (manual) starter. My mechanic had to find a new Turbo starter, which took a day and killed my buyer's PPI appointment. So I now have a Turbo that reliably starts, but apparently doesn't want to leave.
I just picked mine up from Porsche of Tysons Corner in the Washington DC area. Bought it sight unseen a month ago and then spent the weekend traveling the 1,800 miles from there to the Western end of North Dakota. Weirdly, my car averaged over 27mpg (photo below) and I achieved 1.2 bar (too scared to snap a pic with that savagery going on) at some point.
Milestone during a 700 mile round trip to petit Le Mans.
Oil change is next.
How come your tach doesn't have a Turbo logo on it? Is it only on aluminum gauges? Here is my last big milestone, two years ago:
I'm hoping to get a picture of the next time the mileage is a binary number which will be 111,000. Or 111,001 or 111,010 or 111,011...why, yes, I am a nerd.
Grrr. This happened only a half hour ago: I hit some sort of (steel?) beam lying all the way across my lane while on the highway. It was the start of rush hour traffic so I didn't see it through all the traffic until I was right on it. It made an awful crunch and after I swore and cursed I noticed my exhaust note had changed.
I got a chance to inspect it after I took my exit and pulled into a park-and-ride lot. Thankfully, no body damage but it punched a hole in my exhaust:
I looked as best I could and I don't think anything else is damaged. But now I have a more aggressive exhaust note for my trouble!
