I was very comfortable negotiating price with my friend. Not so much with his son. The son is buying the father out and maybe is trying to make more money to do so....not sure. Did you contact the company in Concord? They are newer...but Porsche people.
Yea, they did mine without removing the engine. I am pretty sure what they do is charge "book time" , which allows time to remove the engine, but don't because they don't have to and it's a lot faster. It's one of the ways they make extra money, so unless you know them like I did, you will not get a deal. You will find "book time" at most shops and they will try to do it quicker and make out. I also always supplied my own parts, which I get at dealer cost and I doubt they will allow that now. It will be interesting to see how I am treated now...
You will have to get a price from them, though - that is what they charged me. I am personal friends with the owner, we went to high school together in the same class and he has worked on my various Porches for over 30 years, including 2 entire engine rebuilds. They have no problem doing clutches. The first 911 motor he ever rebuilt was my 1972 911T. Now, he just retired at Christmas and sold the business to his son, Patrick, whom I also know very well, as Patrick ski raced with my son for many years...they do all Imports and specialize in Porsche.
