The transmission guy originally told me he could have the car running in 4 days. He called me last Thursday and told me he would have to take out the transmission and get into it to figure out what's wrong. He said I'd have to authorize a 1000 dollar fee to do that and that the 1000 would go towards the rebuild if I decided to go that route. So I called him today and he hasn't even touched the car. He said he should have an idea by Friday. Bare in mind he originally told me he would have a ****ing estimate the same day I brought damn car in.

He's got your car now, you're pretty much at his mercy unless you want to send a flat bed over there. He's got no real incentive to work quickly, as the longer he strings you along, the more desperate you'll become. Have you looked into his background at all? BBB? Internet, etc. ? I'm just saying be careful, and don't be surprised if he makes you a silly lowball offer for the car. Good Luck

This kinda sketch stuff is what I was worried about from the beginning. He's he only person I could find nearby that worked on ZF transmissions. If he doesn't have an estimate for me by Friday I will have a flatbed there to pick up the car whether the transmission is in there or not.

what happened to the tranny offered by Kalash? $1250 + shipping (TC included) + labor to swap sounds much better than your mechanic charging you $1000 to hunt/find what went wrong in your old one (then credit that $1K to total bill for parts and labor).

your car is 2002 right?? Your transmission is not made by ZF. It is daimler 722.6 transmission. It is not an exotic Porsche only transmission.
It is the same base with mercedes, AMGs, jaguar and Chrysler (300, charger, jeep grand cherokee).

Transmission comes with different names. Chrysler call it W5A580, mercedes 722.6 and even Jaguar uses it for XJR/XKR.

Any shop that can work on Mercedes or late Chrysler transmission should be able to work on yours.

Correct ^^. 2002 is a 722.6 mercedes transmission. So if your mechanic is in for a surprise when the car goes on the lift

The reason I'm leaning towards rebuild is because it will come with a warranty. If I don't know what caused the failure who's to say the car won't eat the new transmission?

I just assumed that ZF made Mercedes transmissions. The mechanic did say it was a Mercedes transmission so at least no surprises there lol

I'd get my car out of that place. You have a fantastic offer from a good R'lister on a low mile tranny. Get it and stop following someone else's rules.
