Yes I have no idea how they would compare to a Sony or Pioneer he’s unit. I like the idea of the volume buttons, though. Some people have tried them similar ones on 997’s but I haven’t seen a review (yet)

Looks like the 997 forum has some pretty long threads on this topic

For that price I'll order one and report back. Stay tuned.

Also, I've generally solved the '03/'04 MOST stereo upgrade. Here's my write up:

Yep. It's unfortunate. I think there are some MOST enabled amps out there, but I'm not putting my toes into that water yet. I have other items that will take my toy car budget for the forseeable future.

I'd love to find a knock off PCCM on Alliexpress. That knock off PCCM+ looks pretty decent.

It was easy enough to run 3 RCAs to the frunk, to bypass MOST, and I have a 5-channel amp that fits in the OE amp location on the bracket. I found the correct male plug to connect to the OE harness for output to speakers. I’m happy with my ATOTO S8, Soundstream 640.d amp, and replacement speakers for now.

The Aliexpress ones are looking like around $250

Found a video review of a high end aliexpress one on YouTube

Well... I ordered one. It should get to my house on the 18th and I will get it installed in a day or so. I expect it is Just Fine.

Thank you! Wishing you the best of luck with the install. Which one did you order? Keep us posted

On another note, found another YouTube video on a 987 one

I ordered the one linked above with the 1G 32G Carplay Wifi option.

My car is a 2004 986 S with Bose, so I'll be using the Avin unit to convert the RCA to MOST. Looks like ~$210 shipped to my door. That's a fair discount on a PCCM+

Give me 2-3 weeks and I'll report back.

So here’s another data point for the “under-seat” sub discussion. I chose a Pioneer TS-WX130DA and following from some earlier posts on this thread I fitted it in the vertical space under the passenger side back seat. I used screw-in Velcro pads to mount the sub and it is very secure, although it is a shade too tall so the rear seat pad doesn’t quite fit down all the way. I think the Nakamichi is a bit smaller. Anyway the install is super clean because I used the phone plug and a harness from Renn Classic. Plenty of current to run the sub. I had the center console off to install a short shifter so I bundled all the wires (including the RCA’s from the head unit and the remote controller) and ran them under the console. The wires connect in the top corner of the sub next to the transmission tunnel so I managed to almost completely hide them. After extensive adjustment I am very pleased with the sound.

So far, this has been a pain in the *** and I haven't succeeded in actually ordering the unit. I have, however, spoken to the customer service team at length!

Basically this is a pre order and the product launches 7/20, so even if you order it now, you're waiting.
