She's a beauty for sure! Never get tired of looking at a nice clean AE such as yours......even if you are on the other side of the pond!

The car looks great! Welcome to RL. It's great seeing both you and churny on this board. In addition to you and churny here are some other 40AE owners from the UK who have posted here (not sure all still own 40AEs - would like to hear from them either way):

Joecrow (no. 0143)
mikehill964 (no. 0697)
higgers (no. 0927)
tubbs (no. 1234 - he posted this # but said wasn't sure of it)
MIKE VERRAN (hasn't posted # so he's car U345 on the registry)

If you know of others let me know.

By the way, I may have missed them, but where are the pics of your new beauty? Been waiting to see her (and don't blame the weather )

Let the festivities begin.......have to say, I'm loving the new ride. Picked it up a week ago. Spent a couple days having the IMS/RMS issues taken care of. She's only got 17K on the clock so I figured she was a candidate for the LNE bearing upgrade as seems like the low mileage pampered cars were more likely to have IMS issues.
What a blast to drive, first P-car owned. Probably will always own one from this point forward.
Not much planned as far as upgrades in the immediate future though a short shift kit might be nice. Suggestions on a nice DYI shift kit are welcome.

Wow - that car looks like she just escaped from a 2004 time capsule. Well done! Are you gonna swap the "pumpkins" out for some clear side markers?

Hoping to keep her looking good but definitely planning on giving her a work out and making her break a sweat.
The clear markers may come in time but for now I'll keep it cosmetically pretty much the way she rolled out of the factory.
Problem now is the lousy snow and ultra cold temps. Killing me to have her locked up in the garage but the way they salt the roads in NY gives me no options. Other problem is the man eating potholes we now have all over the roads....dang politicians need to get to work!

I think a lot of people drop in the 997 shifter as an upgrade. If I'm not mistaken, it is completely plug-and-play and not too drastic of a feel difference.

I have to disagree that there's not much difference in the feel of the 996/997 shifters. Having a 997 C2S and a 40AE, the 997's stock shifter feels worlds smoother than the 996. It's not nearly as notchy.

I plan on putting a Numeric shifter in my 40thAE which will surpass the precision and feel of the 997 significantly.

Thoughts on Numeric short shifter vs. 997 shifter for street use. Numeric also looks pretty much like a drop-in install.

Not completely on topic but what's the situation over there with front number plates (or lisence plates if that's what you call them?). Just interested to know why some of the cars pictured have them on the front and others not. Assume its State dependent maybe.

Some states require front plate (like mine) and others don't.

Anyone seen this/last months GT Porsche magazine?

There is a 30th Anniversary 964 test in it, and they have a side bar on the 40th, very positive, commented that it is the unknown gem in the 996 range, and a future collectable.

Considering all the coverage of the 50th, it was nice to see the 40th get some recognition, asside from a 2 line write up we normally get.

Very nice looking car, best of luck with it. I recently picked up a 2003 C2 and love it. This weather is killing me here on Long Island, all I want to do is drive it but no can do between snow, ice, salt and pot holes that could swallow a small bus I will have to wait as I suspect you will also being not far from me.

I absolutely love the MKII side skirts on your car, so much I have a set being painted as I write this.

You planning any upgrades in the near future, not that the AE really needs any.
