I'm a changed man too. The old me would've commented about the fact that a marketing guy called him out on the only area that he had any degree of confidence in - resulting in many hours of additional therapy. But the new me won't do that. Maybe we can all have a beer together sometime.![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)

Actually, Dell, I didn't have to read up on anything. I'm pretty comfortable with my statistics bona fides, after 30 years of working with market research and polling data (although, being in marketing, I'm probably a lot more wild-*** about interpretation than you are
)
I was calling you out on a much more basic level than the one you responded at:
An average is a set of values totaled and then divided by the number of values.
A median is the point in a spectrum of values at which there are an equal number above and below. It's essentially the 50th percentile.
So, for example, let's suppose we had five guys score their satisfaction with a Porsche upgrade. Four give it a 1, and one gives it a 10. The average score is 2.8, which is some distance from the 50th percentile.
Setting aside the fact that the margin of error in this case is +/- a squillion percentage points, it demonstrates how incredibly misleading an average can be. A more useful way to characterize this data would be to say, "4 out of 5 users hate this upgrade, and 1 out of 5 absolutely loves it."
So, you see, this discussion wasn't entirely irrelevant after all. Heh.

As I told Bruce, first beer is on me.
I can put everything as water under the bridge as my skin is thick. Sure, the old me would have gone to task for page after page of rebuttals. I further understand that typing on a computer is totally different than speaking face-to-face.
Time to start the push in 2010 for removing as much negativity in the forum. The last thing we want is for this to turn into the 993 fourm
Just messing with ya!

sadly becasue of the issue dragging down resale values, I am sure many are financially buried in them with up-side-down financing or leasing. Or just in complete denial that the car they paid 30-40K for 18 months ago has decreased in value by a staggering amount and just refuse to sell at that number.
I do feel very very sorry for these people.
Im not one of them....

well said!
And as for the cars losing values, well it does suck but cars like these are NOT investments. It is what it is.
It's not going to stop me from enjoying my car. If I had waited a couple of year I could have probably bought allot more 996, maybe a GT3 or TT but that would be 2 years that I did not get to enjoy my car.
996 is still one of the best Sports car/GT bargains out there.

exactly, Thats why I feel this problem needs exposed as fast as possible and a proven solution needs implimented. Its the only way this car will not end up the way of the 928 on value.......

I also found 3 things when I was shopping for my 996. Many people were indeed upside down in the cars, many were 1st time Porsche buyers (bought car from childhood dreams) and many were not aware of IMS or what it was. (some thought IMS was RMS)
Another thing was thay had spend a lot on their dream car and were tired of the expensive maintenance at the dealer or Indy. (ie. $2000~5000 in receipts over the past 2 years) That $$ reality would sour you more than worring about a IMS.
Being a DIYer (and enjoy it) is the way I justify sports cars.
