FWIW if you don't know about:
Helicoil is old and crappy. A Helicoil is just a wound spring that fills grooves, is not strong in a linear sense. There are German (I think, dunno for sure) things called "Time-Certs They are and actual solid zig-zag metal part (steel I think). part. One drills out the "hole" with correct size drill that also cuts a small "ledge" for the Time-Cert. Then you "tap" the hole with a Roll Tap that bottoms out. The insert is put in the threaded hole and the roll tap releases the Time-Cert at the bottom, comes out and hooray. it is almost as good as new and waaay better than a Helicoil. I have a box kit, say 4"H x 16"W x 12"L that has sizes from 4mm to 14mm diameter studs. It has been really handy to have at times exactly like what your trans bolts so graciously offered for you to fix.

JMO and thought. No offense if you already know about it, blh, blah, blah.

I have used these Time-Certs for years fixing pulled studs and whatever on Porsche aluminum parts.
YMMV

PS Exhaust looks great, but.... you can't put a trailer hitch on now!

Well the timeserts were not available at the time and since i have done over 40 track days since that repair im 100% certain the heiciols r adiquate.

It the motor even needs a rebuild the machinist can fix it properly

In other news i have done some upgrades this off season. Upgraded the rear lca with tarret uniball units and the front got Rennline arms due to a screaming deal on a barely used set. Also working on cleaning up the bumpers, i really hate bodywork.

The other 2 upgrades are a new rs style cage that bolts to the floor and a Sabelt halo seat. Both used but in like new condition.

Huh, Helicoil old and crappy ?

Nothing wrong with Time-Serts, but they're not superior to good old-fashioned Helicoils, and they cost a lot more.

Alignment time again. Went 3.1* camber and -1.5mm toe for the rear and 4.0* camber with +1.5mm toe in front. I wanted a little more camber in front but even with the tarett high camber uppers i maxed out the adjustment on the rss arms. There r some things i can do if i need more camber in the future. I was around 4.0* last year and the tire wear looked decent. I also spent some time and got the wheel base squared up. Porsche literature says wheelbase is 92.6" and since i pushed the fan assemblies foward 3/4" i streched the wheelbase to 93". Im hoping to keep the larger track wheel/tires out of the fender liners this year.

Not really but thx. I bought that string kit used for $400 and had a local small shop machinist make the hub stands about $600. At $250 per alignment it doesnt take much to recoop your money expecially if u r adjusting for tire wear and upgrading components for the track. It still takes me.5-6hrs but its better then leaving it at a shop to pay good.money for what i can do just as well at home.

And, do it the way you want not to mention riding herd on The overall suspension and car in a way that only you, as owner, has the capacity for. Who knows what the alignment guy sees or does during the process. And, By the time you take the car, drop it off, come back to retrieve it, and head home it's likely about a wash time wise. I'd say it's Smart money in your case for sure.

More prep today. I got the new rss roll bar in. Its made like the rs cage and it bolts through the floor. Its real nice for tall people like me too because the b-pillar sits tight to the step up for the back seat and not the seat belt bolt.i also got the new Sabelt halo sest installed but misordered the extension for the ohlin **** to the pass seat stays out for now. The seat is pretty tight and maybe a holo wasnt the right choice but man this seat is comfy and nice.

Well since i spent a ton of time and some decent $ on fixing and respraying the front and rear bumper i am doing something i thought i would never spend money on.....ppf. it goes in wed for Expel-ing the front bumper, i just dont feel like doing the body work every year.

In other news i just passed my PCA national instructor class. Not sure how much instructing i will do but i figured i would give it a try. It may also allow me to do a few morw events because u get a significant discount as a reward for the work.

Welcome to the club, it can be really rewarding, and sometimes a little terrifying 💩

On the PPF, I’ve been told you need to let the respray cure for a few months before applying it. Worst case is it peels off the paint if you remove it.
