Back in college I had a friend who owned a 911, not sure what model year but early-mid 70s, and it was Aubergine, a beautiful purple/eggplant color. He drove it from NY to CA over Xmas break in order to try to sell it, but was surprised to find everyone on west coast wanted white or black, and even questioned that Aubergine was a factory color. Ended up driving it back east after not finding a buyer.

I believe Aubergine holds the recently set BaT sale price record for a 911 Longroof. I hope that sale was your friend, sounds like he finally deserved it. I adore Aubergine, it’s a near perfect match to the late-nineties’ Vesuvio.

Difficulty selling 911’s in extremely rare colors is inversely proportionate with their age. IE never order a new 911 in PTS unless you are rich, or intend to hold onto the car for thirty years.

Black, White, Silver & Grey are the safest 911 colors to lease 🤑

I came very close to buying a Kermit the Frog green wrapped Porsche 928 on eBay.
Of course I knew the seller and had ridden in it before.
I kick myself sometimes for not buying it, but I had recently purchased my 996 and decided I didn't need to go down the multi-Porsche rabbit hole.
But it was an awesome deal.

Only Porsches that entice me right now are a REALLY cheap Porsche 996, REALLY cheap Porsche Boxster, or a moderately cheap Porsche 944/951.(all manual)
Unfortunately first I need to buy a cheap small automatic car for my youngest to learn how to drive in.
I'll be driving it while my 996 is at FSI, so it needs to be fun to drive too.

I get the marketing part, I just don't think anyone besides you would put a premium on it 20 years later.

There was an 87 911 in red that brought $77k.
The talk on BAT is that the black one one there now will 100k.
I know they are not water cooled, but damn!

You’re kidding right?? Bro if you posted “Why did you buy your 996 Twin Turbo??” on the TT Forum AT LEAST half the responses would mention the “GT1 Mezger motor”, “motor that won LeMans”, “race-car motor”, “race-car derived”, “GT1 motor”, etc. etc. etc. etc.

99.9% of the reason I bought my 2003 TT was because that motor had won LeMans, and it had the “964..” crankcase number to prove it (yes I verified it).

ironically that’s also why I sold it (it’s not drivable on US roads on boost, and it’s no fun on US roads off boost). But every 996 Twin Turbo sold off from fear of death or jail due to the GT1 motor, means one more used 996 Carrera sold due to the GT1 headlights (at least it did in my case).

AND I’m actively hunting a 996 GT3 right now, and guess why..?

Cha ching! 🤑🤑🤑

PS if I can find a MKI GT3 I get the GT1 motor AND the headlights! You think I’m the only one thinking like this? You ever heard of Europe??

Default It’s days like these that make me want to get another one.

so today we went to Valentinas to get BBQ plus homemade tortillas. Then we packed left the hotel and went to Pinthouse brewery more IPAs (Austin). So today I ate pretty good BBQ, drank some awesome beers and drove 250 miles. That’s all I did. Meanwhile the stock market goes bunkers and I make around $25,000 while having fun. I’m honestly thinking if I find the right car to buy it as an investment. I think my problem and that is who I am is that I always want to get a great or even worse awesome deals. Anyway on the way back home I was talking to someone about an aero kit 1999 car, the issue is that the car is not a factory aero kit, and per the PPI that was done by someone else a week ago the car needs quite a bit of work. I’ll find that Unicorn someway somehow. Im looking at the car the same way I look at a stock, at a analyzed price I’ll buy.

The interior is a bit clashing...? The wood door handle accents, bright red center...., it just seems strange. Didn't deter a buyer though!

I think people are spooked these will be priced out of reach before very long; especially 3-pedal coupes. Seems like the last ugly-duckling 964 jumped from $20K to $80K almost overnight.

That is literally one of the only cars on earth I would trade my Vesuvio for (towards). What a precious gem!

This car was also available for weeks on FB for 28k and the guy had no luck. It has a leaking rear main seal (he was willing to split the cost), a quirky interior, and some paintwork needed I was thinking it was worth 22-23k?
I don't get why people are happy to pay more on BAT.
