zbomb's confused 996

i have built my own exhaust with roughly the same thing. I used magnaflow glass packs. I don't have a prayer of being under 95 and thats with the slightly longer boxster exhaust. On a 996, I think you're going to find that this setup is essentially the same as being straight piped.

Yeah... kind of afraid of that. Thanks for the input QC.
I was really hoping that actual mufflers would do a better job knocking the sound down than the cats do, sounds like in your experience, not so much.
You think a turn down/up or some other trickery can help spoof track mic’s ?

Yup, and they are very specific in their design.
From what I’ve gathered, the tracks I’m concerned about don’t always leave the mics in the same spots....
Its worth messing around with as I have the stock cats to fall back on and really, I’ve only got hassled for sound the one time and I was able to mitigate it. Not all the tracks I’ll be running have the 95DB restriction and if I could pick up some power with the deletion of the cats and a less restrictive muffler in its place, I’d run them anywhere I thought I could get away with it. Worse came to worse, I could even swap at the track if I had to, I’d just get a 2nd set of 02 sensors so I could avoid the worst part of the job. It would take maybe an hour.

The main problem I have with trying to get creative is I don’t have a welder and wouldn’t know how to use it if I did.
The next problem is, I dont have any friends with welders to mooch off of or bribe with craft brews or good peach shine.

I think the welding thing is like anything else we do in this hobby. It takes practice. It’s not like you are trying to do body work work or restoration. I’d say you need a working design to meet the noise regs first but doubt it’s out of your skill set. What are they using to weld exhaust, mig with argon? Tig if you want real pretty?

Next track day on Thursday, excited to get back to Thompson. Tomorrow will get its pre track day check over. Also booked another couple day so I’ve got 5 in front of me with a little break mid to end of May to take a look at how the car is performing and assess.
Really contemplating having the cup parts sprayed black, if any New England guys have any recommendations for a shop that can spray imperfect race car parts for a nice price, please pass along.
Looks like I forgot to post the single photo I have of the car so far from Palmer, hoping to get some more.
Also, Cut out my fastest lap of the day, 1:54. Too bad my cleanest lap came in the 2nd session - wish I had that clear of track after getting more comfortable as the day had progressed... is what it is. Good progress from my first event there and something to build off of. Car is pretty fast, did not have to give a single point by all day.

That's impressive!
Now I sorta wish I were in your rungroup. Despite having 150 more HP & a lot more torque I am 2 seconds slower - and I was among the slowest cars in my run group running 1:56 - 1:59's.
