Hit a ****ing parking curb that was in the middle of the road at 430am this morning in the rain. Either maliciously placed or it fell off the truck, regardless it ****ed my wheels only going 30-35 mph. Front air lost air immediately, rear wheel actually held air.
Front wheel:
Rear wheel:
Had to put the front wheel on bumper plates so I could get the factory jack underneath.
Donut was low on air…so I had to find a compressor…finally got it on…
Brought it to a wheel guy who said the rear should be able to be fixed no problem and not even be noticeable, the front will have a small visible weld cause it cracked where it folded over. Once repaired should be almost good as new with a little caterpillars….
Yeah...I can only imagine if I hit it at high speed....it was raining too.
I was reading that people in LA are putting blocks and bricks in the road and when people get out they get mugged....yeah, as soon as it happened, i looked in my rear view, didn't see anything (I noticed it when I was limping back home on a donut after the gym) but that immediately came to mind...so I potentially foiled their plans lol

The la freeway robbery scam came to mind as soon as I read about your wheel incident. That must have been quite the moment. Glad you're ok!

Similar thing in Philly except they love tap you on the rear at a stop sign/stop light, then get out and proceed to rob your car. Usually people get out of their car because they're the ones that get hit, so it makes it easy for them to jump in and take off - driver gets left standing there. Haven't witnessed it firsthand just read about it. I always leave 5-6 yards of space between me and the car in front when at a light, etc.

It seems like the 996 spare loses air pretty quickly -- mine (admittedly untouched for 20 years) had 3 PSI when I looked at it. Many on RL have commented about similarly low spares. It's not a bad idea to fill the spare (to rated 60psi) every time you check the pressure in the driving tires. Someone on RL suggested using nitrogen on the spare since it leaks slower. Costco has free nitrogen refilling stations in their parking lot (meant for members, but you don't need a Costco card to use them).
All this spare tire talk motivated me to look at mine since I've never checked pressure in 5+ years of ownership.
I pumped it up to 70 (or eleven if you're a musician).
The irony is that the rear tire wont fit in the frunk. I keep a extra-large garbage bag in the frunk so if I have to replace the rear tire with the spare I can wrap it and put it in the back seat.
This weekend with mixed feelings of heresy but possessed by the overpowering itch to mess with the car, I rebadged the rear deck to be kind of a "what would they have done" update. I like the way it came out and will most likely not add the 911 or any more below it. Reads differently from various angles so I showed a few POVs. I'm the original owner and the car is a Frankenstein or rebuilds so I'm not that precious about it, just love driving it as much as possible. So that's what I did to my 996 today.
My car has been sitting patiently in the garage while I was oversea's for the last two months.
The only thing I did before I left was put an extra 15lbs of air in the tires, made sure to put the wipers up and popped the frunk in case I experienced a battery failure. That's it. I got back this past Saturday, got up Sunday morning and fired her up. She came alive on the first turn of the key. She stumbled for just a second and then quickly went into a smooth fast idle. My wife, who was watching the exhaust, said everything looked good. The first drive since I put her up was perfect !
Finally (!) finished a stereo install. Still have a little cleanup to do under the bonnet but the sound is much better and the hands-free calling sounds perfect! Full writeup in build thread coming soon.
(Insert obligatory replies about, "I just listen to the sonorous exhaust... blah, blah, blah.") Yeah, me too, but every once in a while a podcast needs to be listened to. And the missus likes tunes on the longer road trips.)
Not as "factory" as I'd like, but not a bad compromise. Full modern functionality and decent sound (with the new amps, below). Still need to figure out where to run the USB connection cable (black cable on the passenger floorboard).
A little wiring cleanup yet to do, but fully functional. "Sub" runs to the doors. "Main" runs to the dash and rear seat speakers.

Nate HOLY CRAP! I suppose a silver lining is the superior quality of those Volk wheels. I am so impressed they didn't crack or break in any way. Saved your bacon in the long run, I think.
