I’m interested to hear more about your switch. I use 20W-50 VR1 in my sprite based on prior owner recommendation but that’s a whole nother thing.
The oil I have run, Driven XP9 is a pain to get having to order online and expensive. The cost of a case has gone up to around $200 / case before shipping.
I have been curious about the performance of a 50W oil and the VR1 is easily available, a lot less expensive than XP9 and from what I have read and the people I've asked about it, should work pretty well, who knows... I don't run UOA's so no data there but I'll see what the filter and drain plug magnet look like compared to what I'm used to and go from there.
If nothing else, will hopefully produce some interesting data on the performance of a 40W vs. 50W.

Yes, should be interesting! Let us know how it goes.

@zbomb I'm going to ask my Indy what he thinks about vr1 50. There's also another German car performance shop in town I can call. I've just changed my oil, using the normal motul 5w40 8100 xcess gen 2 and a bottle, 300ml, of ceratec. Apparently gen 2 motul provides
Better protection of catalytic converters, DPFs and GPFs
if I remember correctly from a virgin oil analysis, zinc and phosphorus were reduced again. My Indy can't get gen 1 anymore. I'm probably worrying about nothing. Cats are relatively cheap, mine were. The Valvoline looks to be a good option. Would you use it for a daily driver? My car is not race like yours is, just a dd. Race oils are generally not intended for cars with cats but with my low mileage I'm not really worried about damaging them.
More concerned about 50 instead of 40 rather than zinc and other 'race' additives. But maybe it's better for my old loose engine.

I've been using it on my '80s cars for 10-20 years. I don't have any scientific data but the S38 engine in the M5 is still cruising along at 300,000+ miles. The only thing in common that the S38 shares with the M96 engine is rebuild co$t but still...
I pick up a couple of cases whenever it goes on sale.

FWIW, XP9 is available from FCP Euro and can be returned under their lifetime warranty program
Want to lend a little to all this talk about oil...
I'm no expert, never pretend to be. If you want to know what the experts think go over to bobistheoilguy.com, that's where the experts are.
I've been hanging out there since 2004 and let me sum up 18 years of reading...the only sure way to know if the oil you are using is correct for your particular car/usage is run it for a LONG time and do oil analysis on every oil change, and keep an eye of what you're getting in the oil filter.
Took it for a 500 mile trip after getting the IMS bearing done, always a shame to put away after the weekend
Is that a "Factory Carrera Aero kit" ? Pretty rare to see on a Coupe ( mostly seen on Cab's due to the Taco doesn't fit) rather than the "Taco Aero"...
I gotta say it looks great on your Coupe, maybe because your car is so clean looking and "Grey"..lol
