Interesting that you say that because I have been wondering too. here are many diverging opinions on the subject. Some say that because it is a viscous system it only send very small amount of power to the front wheels (15% or so) and therefore is somewhat inefficient. Others say that it helps the car handle better by reducing over-steer. In any case, it is really easy to put it back on so I am not too worried.
I only had the car back for a couple of days and below are my first impressions after driving the it for about 50 miles (some highway/some back roads/some town). Remember that the car is now fitted with new B8s and H&R springs which obviously also changed its behavior.
-Steering is a more precise and not bouncy/shaky when hitting road imperfections (very likely due to new suspensions)
-It is a lot more sensitive to wind
-It is a LOT noisier inside the cabin. I need to look into that. Anyone having done it and has experienced the same thing, please chime in.
-I experienced a LOT more over-steering which really surprised me. I was going around a circle and gave some gas a bit early out of the corner (as I sometimes do to get a bit of fun out of the car) and for the first time in two years of ownership, the tail snapped which triggered the PSM.
I will update with more info especially once I've taken the car to the track and on AutoX events.
A new shift **** installed, was easier than I expected but I did break a tab on the silver ring. Think between a combination of age and it being cold out made it extra brittle. You can see in the picture of the old one there was a hole in the boot.
Every time I see one of those Black Forest ***** I feel my wallet twitch against my thigh.
I was part of the VAG world for a long time, sold my S3 recently for a truck so all we have now is the wife's Tiguan. When I worked at a shop we use to carry BFI stuff but I never ended up getting one in all the years of Audi or VW ownership. I was going to do the GT3 shift **** but at almost $500 this seemed like a better value. Feels good in the hand, was relatively easy to install, I wish they would include a bit extra adhesive for tucking the boot, otherwise, fitment was excellent and I didn't have to fight anything. I only had to look up how to get the old one off and the rest went smoothly.
Recently sold my 996 and had a Recaro on order from summer last year (still isn't here but that is another story).
Was going through some things in the basement and I have a Planted floor mount if anyone is looking for one. For some reason my account doesn't allow me to post in classifieds yet. In the meantime, message me if anyone needs it.
I can get pics soon. Figured someone in here was possibly looking at seats this winter
