That's^^^ the same as mine was. That **** is actually made of rubber (believe it or not) which leads to a mushy shifting feel... The FF **** feels much more solid
Here's a slightly better pic to give you some orientation.... What I did was cut a line vertically (black) starting about two thirds of the way down (from the bulb socket to the mirror) on each of the three sides. Then I cut across the lenses horizontally (purple) to chop it up into smaller pieces, The I was left with a three sided chopped piece still hanging towards the but socket, that can be pulled down now that its smaller, then cut that up into smaller pieces so they can be removed from the socket hole. And done.
Thank you for the detailed response! Adding this to the to do list!
$30??? Where did you find that? Mine needs the same repair.
My bad. The other part of the repair is $50.00 not $30.00. Per the Porsche airbag/seatbelt TSB, in addition to the seatbelt receiver, you're supposed to replace some connectors and wiring that go to the airbag module. From Sunset, the receiver is $111.00 and the wiring/connector kit is $50.00. I'm just doing the the receiver and if that doesn't fix it, I'll spring for the $50.00 kit.

OHM/Voltmeter? Resistance? Sounds complicated. Maybe the guy at the Texaco station that checks my oil for me could do it.
Seriously though, I can't see how I could check all four pins without separating the two plastic halves which I don't want to do. When I pull the old one out, I'll use it to see what's involved with splitting the housing.
Ha - you've clearly got the tools & the chops to pull it off! you don't have to measure all 4 pins at once - it's only two wires that go to the receptacle. I don't remember which ones. Like a dope I just sold my old seats and gave the receptacle to the purchaser - unfortunately I was rushed for time and didn't measure the resistance my self. I had the receptacle plugged in under my drivers seat and it got rid of the airbag light. I'm trying to figure out the resistance so I can just put a resistor in line instead of the receptacle.

I haven't looked at the schematic yet. The replacement has 4 wires so I'm guessing two for the airbag module and the other two for the 'fasten seatbelt' warning...?
IIRC it's the brown and green wires that cause the airbag light to go out... Either way, if you could get me the resistance on the Green / Brown and the Blue/Yellow it would be awesome! Thanks in advance
So much for my memory... I just went back and looked at my original thread... It's the Blue/Yellow connector - the 997 seat only has Blue/yellow wire...
Replaced all control arms, inner and outer tie rods plus drop links. Old parts were not completely destroyed but looking forward to a refreshed drive after I get the alignment done tomorrow. Went with the Meyle parts.
Have a full set of original pieces if anyone wants them. Vancouver Island area
Wow, you got kinda hosed on that key. Ann Arbor Porsche ordered me a blade, new fob, and programmed it for right around the "bargain price" of $450. I suggest you call around before pulling the trigger.

This is why I hesitate to ever mention $$ paid on a forum.
There’s always someone who got a much better deal.
All 5 Porsche dealerships near me quoted around the same price.
I’ll just consider it a tax for not living in Michigan 👍

No, thank you for posting, we need to stick together and share our experiences.
A year ago I got a new key. The process is: come to the dealer with registration and DL, we order the key, you pay for it in advance, and then we call you when it comes in, and you come back to the dealer to get it done. The price? He clicked on the computer, said the key will be $625.00. I said, wait a minute, the forums all report key purchase in the $300-400 range. He clicks some more, and says: OK, $355.00. Just like that, obviously he was trying to boost the price. 3 weeks later, another about $150 and 3 hours of waiting, for the programming. So it is always around $500. I have no respect for any Porsche dealer.
