Amazing how fast things come together once you get on a roll....

Marc and Owen discuss the intricacies of the welding technique of the screen mountings before Owen puts the theory into practise.

So now that the A-pillars and screen is coming together Owen will be working on the sill reinforcements and turbo kidney bowls next.

The kidney bowls are interesting in that the left hand one is deeper in section than the right and also has an extra bracing inside the pressing. The reason the left hand one is thinner is for additional clearance on the oil tank.

Looks like you're using the entire new cowl lower plenum in situ instead of sectioning off just the ends .. did Marc decide to just 'pick' off the outer skin of the 993 and marry that with the 964 lower area?

The complete top cowl (or scuttle panel if you prefer) was replaced with a new 993 pressing which was trimmed to fit the ends of the 964 Speedster cowl. The centre section was replaced because we discovered a repaired dent on the leading edge that had been filled, probably as a result of the bonnet being knocked back slightly in a mild impact; the panel was changed because you could not beat out the dent from the folded edge and we're not having filler spoiling the job on an obvious panel edge.

hello to everyone!

in the last two weeks Colin and me were on holiday, so there was not too much post about the progression, however Marc and the 9m team were doing their job follwing the scedule.

i have received pics from Marc, and the most interesting progress (for me at least) is that the rear turbo fenders and rockers are installed. Of course, Colin will give you more detailad description about the job next week.

This week I had the privilege of seeing it up close, along with all the other awesome projects under construction. Big thanks to Marc for showing me around.
Costa.

Sorry I missed you Costa, on the day you called in I would have been riding Tiny up towards Madrid on my way back through Spain. On some of the roads I definitely wished I could have traded seats into my 993RSCS for a few miles, up in the mountains every journey was like a trip around the 'Ring. Definitely not roads to go an attack though, some of the drop-offs were spectacular..... especially when seen from behind a pair of handlebars!

That said, whilst being away the lads have not been shirking on their workload and the Speedster shell has progressed to the point where it is nearly finished.

As usual with most 993s of this age we had to replace the front panel & boot floor due to heavy kerb damage and in this instance we also had to rectify the legacy of a minor knock on the chassis leg that the car had suffered at some time in the past. Not a big deal really & easily accomplished whist the shell was on the jig, Owen just finishing off the welding when I passed by earlier this week.

One of the advantages to using a used sill is that it comes complete with the turbo front infil panel which is no longer available, hence saving us the job of fabricating them. These are two of the parts that was omitted on JP's original widebody conversion....
