Yes, it's difficult and expensive to do it right .. but worth it! Looking good, boys...

Nice! Great shot of the inner rear quarter showing the proper and absolutely necessary Turbo 'kidney bowl' extension brackets that drive the rear loads into the sill and down through the longitudinals. When I asked about those doing 'interviews' with potential body shops in the U.S., I would always get .. 'What? What extensions? .. there's no difference between the Turbo and NA cars in that area ..' that from the two "TOP" custom/conversion shops in L.A.! 9m, they do it once and do it right babe .....

Sorry folks, it's been far too long since I updated this thread.

Bodywork marches on and since a picture tells a thousand words, here is the result of rubbing down the panel stopper ready for primer:

...then into the booth for painting the upside and interior in etch and primer:

After the primer had been baked, it looked like this:

Neil and Phil then fitted the assembly cradle in preparation for loading it onto the spit. We had to do a little restoration to sort out all the usual scrapes and dings that our 993 floorpans tend to suffer when the car is used.

Then it was another coat of etch and primer on all the bits that we could not get to when it was upright.

The last photo is another shot of the turbo kidney bowl infil panel that was missing from JP's original "Porsche" converted turbo-look cabrio.

Whilst the body received attention from Neil, Phil worked on the clamshell. It was interesting to note that whilst this panel had been painted, for some reason it had never been fitted to a car; good news because we only had one layer of paint to remove and the panel lines were still sharp across the back edge. Also, since the car is being painted white, all traces of red have to be removed because it is one colour which is notorious for bleeding through if it is painted over.

That's it for now, hopefully I will post more next week once the seal sealing and underseal goes on.

Colin,
Masterful!

One question though - how on earth do you clean the body just prior to the primer step.? The sanding dust must be everywhere.

Vacuum cleaner twice, then airline to blow out the crevases. In the booth we hit it all with panel wipe (grease solvent) before finally going over the whole surface again with a tack-rag, which is a sticky rag designed to pick up dust.

And they wonder why a full shell paint takes 200 hours.......
