What an inspiration man. I haven't been back here on the 993 Forum in years but been following your build on Insta. This thread is next level in detail!! Such a joy to go through from post 1 to the end today.. This is basically my dream project for my black 120K worthless wide body Hopefully one day.
The man, the myth, the legend!
Nice to see ya on here! Thanks for the kind words! Sorry to let everyone down, just as I was gaining some steam. As you and others saw, I picked up a new daily driver and have been throwing a bunch of bolt-on's on that real quick (cant drive around "stock").
Headed to the airport for a much needed vacation. Once I get back, I'll pick up on the 993 again.
Dusting this thread off as many have been asking me what's new, what's going on (or not) with the car, etc...
Firstly, yes, this took a back seat over the summer. As motivated as I was to finally get it done, I took a time out to catch-up on "life" in the "post-covid" world (three vacations, a couple weekend getaways, a work trip, etc). Also got distracted a bit by another new vehicle purchase and a couple quick "bolt-on" mods that consumed a few weekends (new Bronco + wheels/tires, lift, bumpers, etc).
Anyway, now that things are kinda slowing down, I'm back to focusing on the car (and figuring out where the hell I left off). I have two more distractions on the horizon in the next few weeks (trip to Austin for the F1 race and another 3-day work event where I'll be away) but otherwise, hoping to get this thing moving along.
Moved on to the front suspension...
- front subframe installed (glass bead blasted + 2K semi cleared)
- control arms with "RS" style sport bushings installed
- RS sway bar/bushings installed
- RS drop links installed
- RS front wheel carriers (uprights) installed
Next up: KW V3's and brakes going in
Just one pic for today...

BTW, getting way ahead of myself here but as I'm also about to reinstall my steering rack, I started giving this some thought...
Any advice engine start-up (when the time comes), knowing that I need to contend with the power steering system? More specifically, there is a specific procedure in the service manual for the power steering system when starting from a depressurized system (fill the reservoir, start the motor for a few seconds, kill the motor, top off and repeat a few times, followed by turning the steering lock to lock a few times).
Obviously with the motor being out of the car for over a year and a half now, I don't think its the best idea to fire it up and kill it after a few seconds and repeat that several times. Perhaps I'm overthinking this but should I remove the belt from the power steering pump? My thought was, fire the motor up, let it idle and ensure everything is good. Then come back and put the belt on for the power steering pump and deal with the power steering pressurization separately.
Thoughts on this? I do know that installing the belt with the motor in the car is not fun but doable.

And that pretty much brings us through today. I've got a ton of suspension overhaul items on the way. Here's two other random pics that brought me joy...
First, putting the paint code sticker on. No, hellgrün is not spelled incorrectly on the sticker. When typed in fonts where enunciation cannot be depicted, words are transliterated into phonetic spelling. So Ü becomes UE.
Second, vanity plate because why not try in vain to let people know it isn't "mint green"?
How and where did you get paint code sticker from ?
Re. Steering pump, I’d let gravity do the job. Leave the return banjo off the rack, fill the reservoir and wait for it to start dripping. Bolt the banjo and go.
alternatively, if you pull the DME relay and crank you can prime both the pump/rack and the engine oil galleys.
BTW, what rack bushes are those? I seem to go through stock bushes at a fair rate.
They're the ones that Fister used to sell. I picked them up from someone who never installed them. There are newer ones out that (which again Fister sells) that are red and fit better. These needed some massaging.
As for the PS pump, I had given that some thought (leaving the return off) but still seems like too much to manage between keeping an eye on everything else (motor was dropped almost two years ago) and keeping the reservoir topped up. Will definitely be turning the motor over a bit with the DME relay pulled. Will see what that buys me with the PS situation when the time comes.
Was just thinking if I pulled the belt from the PS pulleys, it just wouldn't be in the mix at all and I could leisurely fire up the motor, spot check everything and then put the belt on at my leisure. Still aways off from that anyway. Forgot I even asked for opinions, so thanks for reminding me.
- steering rack is back in with RSR/GT2 tie rods and poly bushings
- RS uprights installed, along with RS front sway bar and RS drop links
- KW's with Elephant camber plates and strut tower brace installed
- Ran the brake shield and fuel pump cover down to the powder coater for a quick (one day turnaround!!) strip and coat of satin black
- A few back-ordered parts showed up from Germany (because I can never place an order for parts where at least SOMETHING is going to take 4 weeks to arrive from Porsche AG)
