i still believe there is an element of covid-driven, yolo mania involved. people with the coin to buy what they want are simply doing so and you always need at least 2 interested parties to drive the prices we're seeing. no matter the reason, these prices are real - at the moment. what i find interesting is that the WBs are now knocking on turbo prices and i do agree that it's likely related to the complexity of the turbo. otoh, look at 964 turbos, they still outpace your standard carrera (which has gone through the same meteoric rise) and the very limited 964 WB models.

i have an m-coupe and that market is nuts now also. very low mileage, S54 variants are bringing upwards of $100k. i would never have guessed that for something that had just a cult following forever. there seems to be an overall "i want it now" mentality out there right now and i'm guilty as well.

Wow! Which 993 of mine are you referring to? I’ve owned 5 and after each one sold the market increased over time and I still bought another. Not sure I follow your logic? I will likely buy another...just like before...after the Covid craziness subsides.

There is certainly a Covid-related inflation in many markets – stocks, real estate, cars, and even watches. Part of the inflation, I think, is due to very low interest rates. Money seems cheap and many people are willing to borrow and spend. Other than that, I don’t think we can simply label every 993 WB purchase as a speculator or someone who has the oft-quoted “more money than brains.”

Motivation and financial situation are also important factors. I looked for a pristine 993 WB for three years. To state the obvious, Porsche no longer makes 993s and it is increasingly difficult to find low mileage, no stories examples. Plus, I was not willing to buy a car without seeing it and driving it. I was patient, even though the market was increasing at a crazy pace. In March, a local Rennlister offered his two owner, 16k mile 1997 C4S for sale. I saw it, drove it, and bought it on the spot. I paid $139,000, which may seem crazy to those who feel they are being “priced out” of the market. But I am happy with my purchase. I know I won’t live forever and I want to enjoy my cars today. I’ve already put 1,000 miles on the C4S and will likely put on another 5,000 before the end of summer. When I die, my son can keep it or sell it to some future person who, I’m sure, will complain about astronomical prices of 993 WBs.

I do follow these and I considered bidding on these late last year. I don’t think this market has changed much into 2021. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-911-turbo-23/

Congrats on the purchase! As long as you are happy, who cares what others think! If you aren’t selling anytime soon, then you have no worries. Even if they drop in price next year, over time they will come back to what you paid and more...as long as there are enthusiasts who like them and have the disposable income. I suspect that 993’s will have a large following for many years based on who is buying them now.

My 67 Camaro went up in value 30% since last June. My 65 Harley went up 25%. Houses on my street are selling for 40% more than last year. One of my watches doubled in value! The point that I am trying to make in my posts is that it’s not just 993’s that are on fire right now. This level of inflation is simply not sustainable in the long run.

One auction was last fall. C2S prices were cheaper. Slate gray/blk would have gotten a higher price.

Reality for the 3TT market is that there aren't that many around and its a hit or miss with buyers. I would pay more for blk interior and non red 993s.

I remember when light color combo interior cars sat on showroom floors.

Nice edit after you posted 2 paragraphs about how many cars you've owned and go through ROFL, quite the take back! That was the point I was alluding to, no one CARES. Literally, no one asked about your Camaro, which is another thing you keep repeating in this thread. "If I say it enough times, it might be real"

Market is up, buy another one instead of being salty on the sidelines and over optimistically thinking these cars will magically go down in price by half.

I absolutely did edit my post. The initial one was trying to explain the situation as I see it. However, after posting I looked at your post history to see who I was responding to and realized you wouldn’t understand. What I didn’t understand until your last post is how truly miserable you appear to be. I wish I could help you out in some way.

Back to counting stone chips...
