It's just food for thought - the MB flagship performance car took a similar journey (though the full extent of the 911 hybridization is still a bit murky).

The weight gain was colossal for the the C63 and lots of issues related to transmission tuning so it still hasn't launched in the US yet.

The turbo strategy is identical, however the C63 uses a strained 4-cylinder engine and electric motors to drive the wheels as well.

Did it strike you as odd the S and GTS HPs are so close? I would have thought they would try to increase performance delta between the two models. Thanks for all the info!!

Today they are 443 and 473. Is it that drastic to you if it’s 520 and 540?

I think the S /GTS 520/541 hp is indeed too close.

Even If the GTS is 10K more expensive than S , it is still a harder proposition to swing more money for 21 more hp. (Today the base-price for 992.1 GTS is about 15K more than base-price for S. And GTS has 35 more hp (479 hp vs 443ho)).

But all of these still speculation absent of Porsche comment. I have a feeling Porsche intentionally not say anything. I think we will find out the definitive spec of S vs GTS at the May 28th reveal.

Yes percentage wise the gap would be even smaller. Many reviewers have commented the 992.1 GTS didn’t deliver a performance delta commensurate with the price delta. Not saying they’re right but that was a very common observation. I would bet the S isn’t 520 HP based on that.

It seems to me that the turbos will still be connected to the exhaust ports and spin using exhaust gasses most of the time. In addition, it will have an electric motor and battery that will provide the reduction in lag. To sum that up, With this new system, you are going to get the less desirable exhaust note and need to deal with the electric component. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems like what the article is suggesting.

The fun police are always making cars sound worse as time goes on.

You are guaranteed few things in life, death, taxes and cars will continue their trend towards sounding like vacuum cleaners and then no sound at all.

If correct, this is the best possible scenario for 992.1 values.

You'd think that with electric assistance the eturbo would be less detrimental to sound than a standard turbo. Instead of pushing the turbo, the exhaust gases flow through the turbo when the electric component is providing turbine propulsion.

Plus, turbo induction noises are fun as hell. Just ask anyone else with downpipes and the BMC filters.

Totally different than what is happening with the 992.2 911.

MB is walking back the mild hybrid V4 in the upcoming AMG CLE63 not because of mild hybrid tech, but because the 4-pot was underpowered. The new one is going to be V8, and still with a mild hybrid.

It would be like if the 992.2 911 came with a flat-4 mild hybrid.
