People in the US market will keep paying the ADMs, so they will never go away. I am convinced of that now. The only way to normalize the US market is for the China economy to suffer a big dislocation, forcing Porsche to send their cars to the US.

It's not a China thing. Or really any sort of isolated country or sector specific issue.

The pandemic (yes, we're still talking about the pandemic) threw the supply chain out of whack. You don't just shut everything down on a global scale and then expect everything to return to normal just because the governments said "Go!".

All of that was exacerbated by manufacturers shifting to a JIT production and scaling model.

The supply and demand chains just simply have to work out some of the bottlenecks in the system. It's like if you've been fasting for a week, and all of sudden you throw down 3 cheeseburgers and a whole enchilada, it's gonna take a few days for your GI to work through all that food, not to mention the heart burn.

These things go in cycles. The days of parading around on Rennlist because you got 10% off MSRP will be around eventually. When, is anyone's guess, however.

If you have purchase history with your local dealer and were proactive getting on the "list" (I put my name down for a build slot Jan 2022), both my local dealers sell at MSRP for new builds. Only used do they sell at market. I also received more than fair offer on my trade, so not like a hidden ADM. After driving the GTS at PECLA, as stupid fast and capable as it is, I still enjoy my NA 4.0 more. I just don't see any of the Carerra turbo models holding value like the NA 4.0 going forward either. YMMV.

Also with the price hike and lack of options available (No PCCB) very little value IMO, as it prices out like a GT3 stripper. PCCB was a big one for me.

I have a MY24 992 Turbo S allocation that is currently on the ship from Germany to Houston that took me 3.5 years to get but no ADM on it but it is specd with over $50k in options for a price of $284,998. They typically charge $30k ADM the dealer said since it took me 3.5 years to get the allocation they are not charging me ADM

At that price point they are making a significant profit even w/o ADM. Profits on options are especially lucrative for both the manufacturer and dealer.

I always believed this too but had a sales manager tell me otherwise. I was skeptical. Does anyone have concrete knowledge about this? Whether options have a higher-margin profit for the dealer (obviously it does for the manufacturer)?

The price of the car without any options.

Example:
911 GTS 150k
Options 30k

My sense is for example that if dealer gets 20% profit on the 150k base price of the car, they might get 30% or more on the options part. By extension, I’ve also wondered if the SAs get a higher commission on the options so they’re incentivized to sell more. Although from experience, SAs don’t seem pushy at all and seem to be rather candid but it’s also because I’ve not optioned a Porsche less than $30k so they might already be happy and for a little bit more don’t want to come off as pushy.

In my experience every time I had tried to custom order a Porsche which ever dealership
I was dealing with have always aggressively tried to make me add options.
So yes it would be obvious, they make a generous profit on that.

Does it matter? Negotiate the best you can (good luck with that) and either live with the results or don’t. It’s a very easy decision.

Options generally have a higher margin than just the price of the car itself.
