I'd take the "Fake Manual Stick" over the "Braun Razor" every time in a PDK vehicle!!

I have never looked at my PDK shifter and got confused thinking I was in my manual car. I suppose I don’t see the issue. The braun shaver on the other hand reminds me of something you would put in a soccer mom mini van as a shifter.

5 years later and people are still debating the shifter. It was quite the hot topic back then. Friendships were born, enemies were made. Porsche fudged the bucket on the Braun shaver, even they admitted that. I saw one the other day and it really stood out in a bad way. Very economy, ordinary car-esque. Looks and is cheap and flimsy. Sometimes I catch myself in a 1000 mile stare thinking about that shifter. Staring at my screen on rennlist, deep into the abyss wondering... Why did they do this?

And yet the aftermarket never came out with a suitable replacement for the braun shifter - why not? With all the other aftermarket items for this car, a replacement shifter would have sold like hotcakes.

I've seen a lot of interior pictures on here recently and I don't remember seeing anyone with the upgraded aluminum shifter.

I've had both. TBH you don't really notice it...you touch it like once every drive. Not worth the $1k option or however much it costs. Maybe if you truly can't stand the way it looks.

I have it and it is a step up from the all plastic version. It's also a bit larger to my eye. The shifter has never bothered me but I understand why others would be.

...I do recall a manual like shifter *** that some owners had installed; no idea who makes it or if it even is still available.

it can't

the internals underneath the so-called "Braun" shifter will not allow for

These types of posts are worthless unless the poster states the dealers or at least metro area. Which of course they never do.

Or something that Porsche would put in their supercar. Such dumbasses (according to this forum).

I would respectfully disagree. Competition only works perfectly in truly free markets, which do not exist. Since most dealers will not sell to customers outside of their geographic markets, there isn't free competition. If there was and competition (read: "Invisible Hand") were working, every dealer would have an identical ADM/selling price there would be no need to put in any time and effort. What is shows is that competition isn't "working" because markets are not "free", have different demand levels and different supply available and that results in different market clearing prices, market by market.

Because it costs about $800 and is a PIA to change out.

Of course local markets have different supply and demand and thus different appetites for ADM. I don’t think that means competition isn’t working though. Some folks don’t even shop around maybe because $5k or $10k or whatever ADM isn’t a big deal to them when buying an expensive Porsche while others care but may not have access to multiple dealers within a reasonable distance or may not know to shop around or be good at negotiating, etc. There’s lots of case-by-case variation. As a whole though, there’s competition by and large and a willing consumer can take advantage of it. I’m in the Southern California market where we have a dozen dealers. I called around, got everything from you gotta wait in line for a year because we have a list and no allocations to wanting $30k ADM for a GTS to $15k ADM. In the end, I got a couple dealers who initially offered the lowest ADM and had allocations to beat each other out and I paid minimal ADM for a custom order on an available allocation (my dealer from where I had bought before had no allocation and still wanted a higher ADM from me just to wait for the next round of allocations).

I’ve been watching Porsche inventory for the past few years. At one point the low was 8 new 992’s within 100mi of my location. This was during the supply chain peak. It’s held at 50ish for several months but in the last 90 days it’s jumped to over 120. Dealers have soften their replies regarding ADMs to “there is still an ADM but we can work with you” to no ADM (certain models, like the T or Base). I suppose with the .2 around the corner people are ‘wait and see’.

Hard data is hard to argue. There are definitely increasing inventories due to more supplies. Demand is still strong but looks like supply has final caught up to it.

New Porsche buyers tend to wait to see what the newest products will offer. Experienced Porsche buyers know what they want and grab what’s left on the existing products. Porsche knows it and have been very smart about it to manage demand.
