Resetting Oil Change Reminder (after changing oil of course)

There are numerous threads on this same subject. Several RL members with 992s and multiple different versions of PCM have tried it and report being unsuccessful to date.

FWIW In the past five days (06/06/2022) I’ve had personal experience with the 2022 iCarSoft and the Autel MP808 Scan Tools. The 2022 iCarSoft tool does NOT work on 992 series Porsches. The Autel MP808 tool DOES work on my 992. While not all bidirectional functions are available, resetting the maintenance and oil change monitors IS available and they work.

I assume this is the tool that worked for you?

where are you seeing this for under $300? On amazon it's over $700
EDIT.. oh wait, this is just the UPDATE service. jeez. I miss the Rosstech VAG-com for my Audis. $400 one time charge and did everything.

Say there is a tool to reset the service reminder. How much do you save by changing oil yourself? $100, $150? Seems small for a $100K plus car, just MO. I get it if you live in the great north but 99% of us are what an hour maybe from a dealer or indy?

I would say the majority of us don't necessarily do it for the cost-savings, but more that we're avid DIYers. It brings another level of connection to the vehicle - similar to why many prefer manual to PDK. Arguably inferior technology/performance-wise but brings us closer to the ownership experience.

Indeed, I actually like changing the oil myself.
Plus by doing it myself I know it's done right.
Typically, the folks that change the oil at dealerships are not your seasoned mechanics and they will not be as meticulous as me about the process.

Are updates absolutely required? Assuming I don’t buy a newer car, won’t the current update satisfy my needs for the life of the vehicle (the 992)?

Don't mean to open a can of worms, but those "avid DIY's" use PIWIS as "we" tend to do a lot more than SRIs.
The last Launch update on the x431 version, cracked the door open to 992s so some more updates will likely add more functionality. For the wife's 2020? My old one is enough, I don't need to pay for updates and for the 992 I run PIWIS v40.600

Oh boy . . . . Well . . . . The good news is that the Autel MP808 does clear the Maintenance and Oil Change Reminders.
BUT it unfortunately has a number of other issues, due to which, I must rescind my implicit recommendation of yesterday:
1.) The use of some “Active” (bidirectional) functions particularly pertaining to the PCM must leave little bread crumbs behind that disable the PCM entirely or disable some functions Ex: Volume control, station selection, Car Play Launch Control, etc. Restoring the PCM is a rather circuitous and time intensive process, to say the least.
2.) Many bidirectional functions do not exist or do not work at all or the scan tool reports that the VIN Number is not accurate. FWIW the Scan Tool reads the VIN and it is correctly being read when compared with the actual VIN for the car.
3.) Some of the selectable “Buttons” when navigating their menu driven system are occasionally in German. IMHO, in the scheme of things, I don’t find this to be a major fault.
4.) The Scan Tool had a “Button” to “Delete Data”. Which should clear existing records of accumulated history. Ex: How many times a switch has been closed or opened. I never did find anything this “Button” would actually do.
5.) Etc.
Finally I spoke with Autel Technical Assistance. They were very pleasant and were able to retrieve the various screen captures and data logs of the above and other items. However, they are relatively clueless and offered “maybe” a beta software version. So in a nutshell the software clearly isn’t ready for prime time.

drcollie,
I saw in some of your subsequent posts that you purchased the Autel MK906BT (I believe) and you are able to reset the Oil SRI as well as other functions. I'm about to purchase one based on your experience. Are you still satisfied with the scanner and assuming you haven't Bricked your 992.

I recently purchased a 2020 911 Carerra S and had the oil changed at my local Porsche shop where I had had my prior Porsche serviced. I told the owner that I was worried that his tool might not be able to reset the oil change reminder but he was confident that he would not have a problem. His Snap on Apollo D8 that he uses and never failed before did not reset my oil change reminder. He contacted his "rep" who confirmed this tool would not work on 992s. He has contacted the local Porsche dealer that hopefully will agree to reset the service indicator for us this one time. I have read the posts here and have done some research. I have found two possible options to deal with this problem in the future.
Has anyone had experience with the new 2022 Auto maxicom MK 808 or iCar soft 3? I have emailed both companies to ask if their software supports 992s but have not heard back.
I only want to be able to reset service indicators; I have no problem spending hundreds of dollars but I do not want to spend thousands for some of the more elaborate tools mentioned above.
Thank you.

I bought the Auto Maxicom MK 808, it does all three of my modern Porsches plus my older "regular" vehicles. It supports my '21 992 S, my '21 Cayenne GTS, and '20 Macan S. It can do a whole lot more as well, including turning off the hated Stop/Start feature in the vehicles. Note that downside of this unit is the $ 600 a year subscription after the first year if you want to keep it updated (Still works fine without the updates).
