Look at the bright side everyone: worst-case scenario is you get your 2021 cars early in 2021. Due to COVID, a bunch of us didn't get our 2020 cars until a couple of months ago (some even later) while we knew that 2021s were already being built.

It is...see following explanations/comments.

As a person who now parks his cars in the garage all the time, but has not done so in the past, I know that a couple months of SD sun can do some damage.
Yep...they are cleared into Port and then undergo PDI and moved inside for storage often (space/resources depending) until transshipped to dealership at a dependent schedule.

Yes we got a new car when our 2016 Cayenne Diesel was held up and ultimately refused permission for sale/release by EPA/Customs due to Dieselgate. So it does happen.

Guys the cars are covered with protective shipping blocks, tape, etc to cover the major painted surfaces and even interior to some degree. Look like they've been zipped locked in giant condoms to some's eyes. So I would not worry much about "being out in the sun". and all that. Also I do believe the major ports of entry at East and West Coast they do move them into indoor storage just in case as an alternative. After-all these aren't a bunch of Ford or Chevy's sitting around. So my SA says they are often moved into indoor storage as they go thru the port inspection process. Also they aren't sitting idle and PDI process often clears them for delivery as they arrive so what we are really waiting for is port release date....often if that is given by Customs and such they could theoretically release cars to the dealers who cannot sell them till EPA approval date...that is the notorious 10/16 moveable date your SA's are hearing from PCNA. But I've heard from a few of my former SAs who have said that also is a possibility...if dealer has storage capacity on site. They just take the cars at delivery, prep them and put them indoors until PCNA says they can release them to customers (aka sell them). That means your cars may be actually closer than you think soon vs just sitting at port.

Ask...when our 2016 Cayenne was delayed we were at first like okay and then after 30 days kindly asked what options were avail since we had already traded in my X5M 4 mos earlier with the expectation of a Cayenne delivery soon at the dates indicated. Just ask...you don't get often what you don't ask for my mom always said.

Okay, my TYD has now pushed me to November 6 and my SM has responded that "it is the EPA." I pointed out that the EPA says it is Porsche. No response and they have no clue as to when they will have our cars in their hands.
So at what point do we take this to Autoweek, Car & Driver, etc?

To be fair, this isn't anything new. The 2020 cars were supposed to be landing in the hands of those that placed orders in the summer of last year and we didn't get our cars until the end of September. As it was then, it is now -- the EPA process was the hold up. Again, this isn't a new thing. It's also not unique to the Porsche 911. The difference here is that many 911 buyers custom order their cars and have much greater insight into the process, right down to the logistics. I don't know of any other car marque where people are fastidiously tracking the location of the ship that their car is on. More typically, this process is an opaque black box for the buyer.

Yes, as part of the process, these cars sit outside in the elements. It's totally normal, again, 911 buyers just tend to focus on logistics details. Your car is sitting there covered with white plastic shipping film to protect it along with blue "pool noodles". Some manufacturers, use full zipped up covers to protect the cars in transit, but the 911, being a volume car, gets film and pool noodles. Many manufacturers didn't even bother with film until BMW got caught re-spraying cars at port -- look that one up.

Waiting sucks, but the cars are worth it.

If you're looking for some consideration from the dealer and you live in an area where winter is coming, now is the time to negotiate a deal on a winter wheel set to help offset your protracted wait. As late as these cars are arriving, you'll probably need them anyway.
