I plan to do the same thing to my 992 when it arrives.

I would think the magnets aren't strong enough since there will be a space between the plate and the bumper given the slight point of the sport design fascia. Am I correct?

The guys doing my ppf/ceramic/tint are using a magnet front plate. The installer said they use about 80 lbs(!) Of magnets on the front bumper and plate bracket but it's rock solid and tested up to 150 mph.

They have some video on their IG page

I went carbonio but the magnets look very clean

80lbs of magnets at the front of the car?
Hard pass.

Thanks. Is it really 80 pounds of magnets? I would think that much weight would throw off the handling.

I will bring it up again with the installer today when I pick up my car.

I suspect he was exaggerating- he was putting it on a gt2rs when they showed me the demo. Will ask for actual weight

Okay, thanks. Would like to know actual weight. Have 2021 Targa 4S and live outside Boston, where front plate required. Looks like your installer is in Boston so you are nearby. Thanks.

I plan to install the magnets at the points where the plastic bracket contacts the front fascia. I am anticipating four (4) such contact points. Now, my 992 is on order and I haven't received it yet, so I don't know the exact geometry of the license plate bracket and the interfacing area on the front of the car. However, I am led to believe it will be similar to my 991.2, in which case rare earth magnets should work perfectly.

Isn't the cost of the magnet solution kind of pricey? How much are we talking? They have to remove the bumper and reinstall, so that's probably 2-3 hours of labor minimum, plus the cost of the magnets, etc. $1000-$1500?

It's quite reasonable if you do it yourself. It was an easy and fairly quick job to remove and reinstall the front bumper on my 991.2. Of course the removal and re-installation procedure for the 992 will be different. My 992 will not be delivered for another two months, so by that time someone may post some how-to instructions.

The magnets cost about $12plus shipping from KJ Magnetics.

Don't you have to readjust the parking sensors when you remove the bumper?

Fww, my wife and I came back from the airport Saturday night at 10:30, to find our MacTur had been impounded by Denver county sheriff for unpaid front plate violations. The tickets were issued solely for plate violation, nothing else, while parked on-street here in Denver.

Total? A bit north of $1100. Yes.
one thousand one hundred dollars. No appeals. No reductions. The fines keep “doubling” the clerk tells me. That was 5 tickets. The initial violations cost $90 😱

Misunderstood his description.

It is 80 lb magnet strength- total added weight to the front bumper is about 7lb.

That makes much more sense
