So how do you apply the "printed" plate?

It's a vinyl sticker.

I'd argue that the sticker approach is worse because you can't take it on-and-off quickly for snapping some pictures.

It depends upon your goal. I like the sticker approach for those that live in an area with draconian front plate enforcement.

No, I Have never had a front plate on any car I have owned. I have received 1 ticket about 20 yrs ago for this lack of a F plate. Smiled, paid the $45 fine and never thought about it again

In California, it's a fix-it ticket. We can't just pay a fine. It needs to be corrected and signed off. Then we pay the fine.

Hey Jason,
I’ve been following info you shared about using earth magnets for the front plate.
It’s finally getting warmer in Chicago and preparing for the front bumper removal and get this plate project going.
Previously, you shared followings magnets as what you are using.
K & J Magnetics.
- Bumper magnets: BX0X06-N52 (pull force 53.53 lbs)
- Bracket magnets: DX08TP-N52 (pull force 28.31 lbs)

From your photo, it seems like you put magnet on the outside side of plastic plate frame piece, not inside.
It goes like this.
==> Your 911 | magnets inside bumper | Your front bumper | magnets glued on plate frame | frame | license plate
Have you thought about mounting magnets like this?
==> Your 911 | magnets inside bumper | Your front bumper | felt pad | frame | magnets glued on plate frame inside mounting holes | license plate

Are the magnets you used easily detachable? I'm worried that magnets are too strong to detach the plate.

Have you run into an issue where magnet you glued onto plate frame coming apart because of magnets inside bumper being too strong?

I used four magnets on the license plate bracket and four on the inside of the bumper. You can see the license plate magnets attached to the bracket in the pic. The other pic shows the bumper about to be partially removed. I positioned a bench in front of the bumper for support and slid the bumper onto it just far enough to get my hand inside to attach the tape and magnets. However, I suggest disconnecting the wiring to the bumper and removing the bumper completely as it will facilitate more accurate magnet placement. Also, next time I would position the two lower magnets on the license plate frame to correspond with a more optimal location for the magnets inside the bumper.

Jason

I mounted my plate to a Carbonio and keep it in the frunk. Only time it needs to go on is if I park on the street.

This is my system as well. It stays in the frunk and I put it on when parking in some areas or when I know I am going to be using specific NYC bridges or tunnels that are known for nabbing people for front plates at the entrances.

I work in manhattan and take the GWB in everyday via ez pass . No front plate , no problems for over 7 years. Stopped by cop, he didn’t look up front , he went to the back. That’s just my experience tho.

I'm glad that you haven't had any problems.

This is my first car that I've routinely not run a front plate on. I like having it on hand as a backup.

My father skipped a front plate on his f430 spider when it was new years ago. He was stopped at the BK Battery Tunnel (Hugh Carey Tunnel) entrance. He commuted to Staten Island every day in it and was pulled over one day on the Verrazano Bridge on his way home. They officer told him: "I see you drive over this bridge every day. I will pull you over and ticket you every day until you put on that front plate."

I have always lived in states that require a front license plate and never mounted one on any of my cars. Other than a few cheap parking tickets in OH before I realized a loose plate on the dash avoids the tickets, I have had no issues. In fact, I have been driving my GT3 here for nearly a month with no plates at all (they’re coming but there was a mess up) and have had multiple cops behind me while driving and not once pulled over.

Steve Jobs was known to never install plates (front or rear) on his cars and seems to have gotten away with it.

I no longer put front plates on the nice cars. I have one car (F150) with a front plate and that's the one I drive onto military bases. I haven't been stopped so far without a front plate. The MPs won't let you on base without a front tag. Almost every state around VA doesn't have a front tag (PA/NC/WV/TN/KY), I wish they'd just give it up.

Maybe it's just me but I would personally never buy one with the front license plate...
