Makes sense, thanks. My car is currently on a ship heading through the English Channel. It’s been tracked in TYD for some months now, I just haven’t bothered getting a VIN.

So my GM called yesterday saying he might be able to get an 2020 allocation from another dealership and see if it's not too late to change the build. This would mean I get the car in August as opposed to Nov/Dec/Jan for a 2021 model. What would you guys do? Tough it out a few more month for the 2021? So from what I read, MY2021 the front wheels are more flush by 3mm, potential small fixes to first year model bugs, and better resale down the road.

Get out the measuring stick and look at 3mm. Is that enough to make you wait?

I could have waited, too, but after driving the 992, I had to have it. There are some extra things on the 2021 I would like: ambient lighting, but have that on my bimmer; larger fuel tank, but I can go 350 miles easily on a road trip and don’t want to sit in a car for longer than that anyway. If you are good at waiting, maybe it’s better for you. I am not good at waiting, lol.

As documented elsewhere, I had a similar decision to make. Placed an order in early-March, saw my car in TYD, then, at the end of April, it “disappeared” from the system. Long story short my car was moved to a 2021 model and delivery was delayed by 4-6 weeks. I spoke to the dealer and although they didn’t have a build slot that I could customize, they found a couple of similar cars available “now”. I thought about it for a day and decided to stick with ordering what I want, helped because of the few changes in the 2021 (larger capacity fuel tank, auto rotate side mirrors, etc.). If I had been able to order a 2020 with my options I would have still waited the extra 4-6 weeks. Now—if I would have had to wait three (or more) months? I think I would have taken the 2020. Although I didn’t end up going that way, I seriously thought about taking one of the 2020 models that wasn’t perfectly configured, and a large part of my decision was the fact that the delay was relatively minor. If you can get the 2020 built how you like I’d go for it :-)

I'm with Dan here and waiting it out for a 2020 (as opposed to going over to a 2021). I plan on driving my car as a daily driver so the lower miles on a 2020 (versus the higher miles on a 2021)- when it gets traded in will probably even out. I could care less about ambient lighting and the gas tank is big enough for me. As for any bugs or small fixes, I believe they are being addressed on the current builds regardless of the model year. And 3 millimeters is not worth waiting 3+ months for me. You have to realize though, a few of us have been waiting through the lock down and factory closing--so our delays are getting substantial. I will speak for myself here - I want my car asap- this test in patience is driving me nuts.

I sympathize with this , I waited 14 months, it was worth it. There is no substitute to the joy and experience of picking up a custom ordered 911 after the wait.

I would wait.

Sounds silly, but I’m actually irritated that Porsche decided to change the offsets on the wheels from ‘20 to ‘21. 3mm is a subtle difference but it would be noticeable to me.

3mm = 0.12 inches

I'm sure it is worth the wait....and Holy Smoke...I just read about your car ordeal (what a nightmare) but you have one drop dead gorgeous car!! My 2020 build has everything I want in it (I'm sure...I changed it 4 times before it locked last week ;-) and I know it will be worth the wait. BTW....is your car Jet Black Metallic or straight black? It's stunning!

There really has to be an engineering or dynamics reason for this change. 3mm is really nothing cosmetically, at least as far as this set of human eyes can tell

It’s Jet Black Metallic. Gorgeous colour, I love the depth of the metallic flake. Colour is the only thing I agonized over. For every other option , I just decided to get everything I wanted, forget about the price tag, and live life without regret. My other consideration was Gentian Blue with Grey/Chalk interior and yellow seatbelts.

here’s a sun shot where you can see some of the metallic.

I switched to Jet Black Metallic after seeing Janko Lind's car on YouTube (immediately followed by rk-d's car on here) --and now I am even more excited since your car is also incredibly beautiful!! Which, of course, makes the Porsche waiting torture even worse ;-)
