I just realized I have an irrational strong negative reaction to the look of that clamshell rear wing. Why wouldn't they do the ducktail like in the SC? But if I'm driving the car, I do not have to see it, and it will be lowered when I look at the car from the outside, so maybe it's ok. But if it's also manual-only, that would be too many annoying compromises, so I'll stick with RS in that case.

The 1970 911ST was wingless (and is the inspiration for this tribute model). Ducktail was introduced on 73RS.

Wingless is fine - it's that clamshell that irritates my eyes for some reason. But sadly, it will probably be manual anyway (I much prefer the PDK, especially now that I use road cars to practice full-time left-foot braking). This is the third "special" car I can get and that is not what I want :-(. I guess it will be the "plain" GT3 RS or maybe even Spyder RS for me.

I prefer the ducktail as well but they’re hewing to the past.

Yeah, I don’t like the look of the clamshell either. But for a car that exceeds 200mph, I think they need the retractable wing at a minimum (I agree that it’s the worst looking of these sorts of wings though)

But the original ST didn't have a clamshell, correct? Just a pure fastback.
When was the retractable clamshell introduced?

I'm not a big fan of the ducktail on the 991 and 992 cars. So if I had to choose between a ducktail or a "clamshell rear wing" I would definitely choose the clamshell. The manual transmission suits this car perfectly IMHO and I wouldn't spec it without it because it's not a track car.

The retractable rear spoiler was introduced on the 964 generation if I'm not mistaken.

Some interesting info about the 911 ST https://www.hotcars.com/things-gearh...he-911-st/amp/

I agree about Manual being best suited and I think Manual is particularly engaging on the track...

The retractable spoiler did start with the 964, but up until the 991, it was pretty small and inboard. And it really isn't a clamshell (full width of the rear end) until the 992. It's the 992 because it's full width that looks so odd to me. The ST above looks very similar to a base 992 C2 with the spoiler and might even be the same but can't quite tell.
