A place to discuss all things ADM
#6871
I think that's the point. We don't accept that being a business that makes money means that ADMs are reasonable.
There are many retailers that sell manufactured consumer products at MSRP, no matter how big demand is and how low supply is, and still make a tidy profit. There are many reasons they that they do so and those reasons have to do with making money in the long run. That is, giving customers a consistent buying experience so they keep coming back.
In some countries, ADMs are banned, and the car manufacturers certainly hate ADMs because they turn buyers away, instead of encouraging them to wait for more supply. It's bad for Porsche and it's bad for the consumer. We only have it at all because we have an odd system where dealers aren't owned by Porsche and aren't regulated enough.

Really, we talk directly and indirectly about a lot more than just cars, which is why things are often taken personally. If it was just about cars, 90%+ of the RL traffic would go away. But you're right that we shouldn't take any of it too seriously and get upset, because our posts don't reflect how we would and do interact in real life.

You called a dealership greedy for having a moderate ADM on a car that’s in line with the market. I responded that they were a business, and in the business to make money. That is all. You have made it your mission in here to call every dealership a stealership that does not offer MSRP cars. It’s odd. We can agree on that.

I call a dealership greedy for charging ADMs for it's good customers, especially when they've done so in the past. I know that they are businesses and they can do whatever they want. I'm not a fan of dealers who sell their GT allocations for ADMs to other dealers who are speculating or when dealers spec their own cars to get the highest bid when they have good repeat customers that would have loved to get an allocation. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy if PNH offered you an ST allocation with a 6-figure ADM given your relationship with them. I work in a relationship business where I've become a top local realtor with zero advertising/marketing spend because I take care of my clients and play the long game because repeat and referral business mean 10x more to me than 1 transaction, very similar to how PNH operates.
I don't fault a business for trying to make as much money as they can, as long they don't cross legal and ethical lines - it's not greed, it's capitalism. And I don't see discontinuing to offer cars at MSRP to volume customers as being unethical, it's just a business decision which may or may not work out well for the dealer. I almost wish my dealer would stop offering me cars at MSRP, so that I'd have a good reason to stop buying cars - most of my purchases in the past year were in the unexpected 'offer I can't refuse' category, not cars I was actively shopping to buy.

You've convinced yourself that the gentleman we're discussing is a good customer when you have absolutely no context of his buying history with the dealership. He went into a dealer that used to be an MSRP dealer, but they're not anymore. He got on a list. They told him $40k ADM if he wants the car, he told them he'd wait. That doesn't make them greedy. You're delusional.
I would argue almost every person on RL with a career works in a "relationship business" to some extent. It doesn't make their business analogous to Porsche stores. Your real estate gig is not at all the same as a car dealership, despite the parallels you continue to try and draw between the two. This is my last response in this exchange.

Dealerships are in the business of making money.
Not being fair.
Fairness is getting a ribbon for coming in third place in a 3 person race.
The reality is, like with most things in life, they treat everyone equally. Equally different.
That's ok. That's just the way life works.

Interesting, almost like the anti-thesis of the Voodoo one that just sold. PDK, sofa, Shark paint
