Latest from Suncoast, any truth to this?

Without the aftermarket bridge I believe if you just swap airbags and steering wheel to the new style you'll get a dash warning light. This is the main reason we don't support the modification.

Please do your own research, last thing we want is the airbag not to go off in the case of an accident.

Since your steering wheel is leather then my choice for the airbag will also be leather. The leatherette will look a little different, more of a plastic than leather look.

Do you have a non-MF/heating, non-mode wheel?

All 991.2 steering wheels are heated. This will be the closest to what you are looking for.

I wonder if there is a way to get the warning light to not come on.

There is, buy & install the GPS adapter.

So you need the GPS adapter even if you don't plan to install MF/heat/Mode dial? First I'm hearing/reading of this also...

I don’t have the GPS adapter in my 2010 Cayman and I don’t get any error codes.

Well, 22 pages took a while...lol...but a great thread. Thanks all.

I'm considering going from a sport design, non-multi function, sport chrono wheel...to a newer 991.2 GT NON-MF and NON-sport chrono wheel. I only want the looks, feel, size and paddles of the newer GT wheel.

From what I gather, this is a direct plug and play (with the new 991.2 air bag also needed, of course).

So as long as I unplug the positive battery terminal completely, with the key NOT in the ignition, it should be plug and play without any error codes.

No programming needed. No adapter needed.

The only question I have is IF I decided to go with the new 991.2 GT wheel WITH sport chrono (for the neat/goofy little selector ****), would there be any adapter needed? Any programming needed?
https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...X1G2ALCGT.html

That's the only question or scenario I didn't notice covered here.

Please and thanks!

This is not a 991 specific question but this thread sees to be where the 991.2 SW expertise lives.

What I'm wondering is do all of these various newer modular steering wheels (991.2, Macan, Panemera, etc.) all utilize the same airbag type? I understand the steering wheels have various versions (GT, MF, non-MF, heated, etc.) but do they all use the same airbag?

To be even more specific, I am thinking about picking up a "GT Sport Leather with MF" steering wheel from Suncoast for my 997.2 6MT. I would then remove the MF, SC dial, paddles, and anything else I don't plan to use on my car.

I was planning on sourcing the airbag from eBay or elsewhere but can I assume any newer round airbag like the picture below will work with this wheel? Even one from, say, a 2016 Macan?

Thx!

Seems they're all the same and the Macan version is the cheapest, PN 95B-880-201-AC-A34 is the one I'm getting ready to order. I'd love to hear from somebody that's actually completed this, just to verify this is correct.

I finally decided to pull the trigger to make this modification. I'm going with Agate Grey leather steering wheel from Suncoast porsche: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991LEAG2GT.html

But to pay $1,500 for Agate Grey leather airbag from them is quite ridiculous. I have found this one from Macan, will it fit? : https://parts.byersporsche.com/p/Por...0201BAOE5.html

Even better if somebody have a good tip for used one. I've searched ebay, but I can't find anything. With used one I'm willing to go with leatherette version as well.

^I think $1000 is decent price for a brand new airbag. The Macan part will fit the GT steering wheel. The airbags are all the same (size and functionality wise) in this generation.

This should be the Agate Grey Leatherette: 95B-880-201-BD-OA6, $803.79 from Sunset Porsche https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...LTIwMS1PQTY%3D . Leather would be 95B-880-201-Q-OE5 https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...g2LWdhcw%3D%3D

I'd verify before ordering, but that's what the parts catalog shows.

Great, thanks a lot for your answers. Also with all your experience, is it really a big deal Leatherette vs Leather Air bag finish? I have currently the full leather finish in my car, but I think the Leatherette, should be just fine.

I've never actually seen the leatherette airbag, I had leather in my Macan. I assume it will have that "pebbly" texture, like the dash on a non-full leather car. The leather is smooth. Guess it depends on whether it's worth an extra $100+ bucks to you.
