I went from a sport design, PDK, no heat wheel to one with heat and mf. Using the adapter and my original clockspring, everything worked except the heat and MF display on the PCM; no fault codes appeared. I then replaced my clockspring with one from a used car with heat and multifunction. With the used clock spring, the heat and multifunction worked on the wheel (still no display on the pcm for MF which I know needs to be coded with PIWIS).
Unfortunately, there were several other issues, including:
- Cruise control doesn't come on when stalk button is pushed
- Voice control doesn't work anymore when stalk button is pushed
- Error messages:
- Fault of headlamps control system (I have PDLS)
-Steering wheel support limited (needs calibration?? I tried moving the wheel from left stop to right and it still has the fault)
-PASM fault (I don't have PASM)
-PSM Loss (I assume it is related to the PASM fault; maybe PSM is off because it is looking for PASM)
-Start stop operation deactiviated
My question is can these be corrected through PIWIS Programming?
I've read this thread and I realize the adapter has gone through several renditions since the first post, so I'll just ask so i get up to date information.
I have a 2013 991.1 with Sport design steering wheel w/sport chrono, no heating. I want to buy a 2018 Cayenne MF heated steering wheel with Sport Dial, which adapter do I need to enable MF and Sport Dial? What additional items do I need to enable heating? Does MF and Sport Dial require PIWIS coding? does heating?
For anyone interested in doing this - I have an adapter available. Note - mine is from a manual (NOT PDK, so no paddles) & I went from Multifunction TO Multifunction (so it was plug & play). Item listed for sale here - https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1154046
991.1 SPORT DESIGN STEERING WHEEL w/PDK, Sports Chrono (no Heat) retrofitting 991.2 GT Sports wheel w/PDK, Sports Chrono and MULTIFUNCTION (No heat & drive mode dial)
All,
I've been (trying) to follow the 18 pages here and it looks like the recent updates to the GPS modules have simplified life for us.
I reached out to Paul aka @Yuan Li for some assistance and he was able to confirm the following:
Compatible Steering Wheels into a 991.1
Wondering if folks can chime in here. As I begin searching for suitable steering wheels on ebay, there's a lot of comparable wheels that come up but I'm still unsure which ones are compatible with the 991.1 w/GPS adapter. I see some folks have used Panamera steering wheels but I also see some discussion around a "smaller" GT Sports steering wheel.
Here's a few questions:
1) which other models with "GT Sports"-like steering wheels fit the 991.1? Macan/Boxter/Panamera/Cayman?
2) is there different versions of these steering wheels that vary in size? (one smaller than another?)
I tried searching but there's so many different posts that gets picked up in non-related threads, its information overload without context~
So, stock steering wheel w/o MF buttons. PDK & Sport Chrono. Suncoast says you cannot just install their buttons in place of the trim pieces. Anybody know the reason? Is it because of the electronics module that links the switches?

Reason: Wrong word

I’ve asked this exact question - it has to do with “enablement codes” that are specific to your VIN. If your car did not come EQUIPPED with MF, only tequipment stuff COMES with the necessary codes. My understanding is you cannot buy it LEGALLY otherwise...

I'm actually looking at hardware, not software. What I mean is, if I open up my steering wheel, will the module be in there that you plug the two cables from the switches into, or does that need to be added. Also, is there just one steering wheel, or two: one for MF and one without--meaning that there is a hole or channel for the MF switch wires.
After the hardware path is established, then the software may or may not need to be enabled. Of course, given how PCNA works there is no doubt a cost associated with it.

Reason: Typos
If anyone did this with a Macan wheel (because it’s the same) and wants to upgrade the plain black trims to the 991.2 ones, I have a spare set. Easy swap, fits right in, plug-and-play.

Based on what I have seen my non MF does appear to have the plugs for the MF switches - however, even if I add the switches it will not work without entering the enablement codes using PIWIS II.
One additional question on this - for anyone that HAS replaced the clock spring/stalk: under what circumstances does the new steering wheel angle/adjusted have to be "recalibrated"? I see that in Paul's instructions but I don't see many people doing it. If I am replacing the 'stalk' portion but not the clock spring, do I need to 'recalibrate'? Please advise, thanks! -Dom
