Thanks to all who posted part numbers with their photos, it made the parts procurement job much easier than it would otherwise have been.
I used the trim pieces suggested by ottodawg in post 413 in my recent 981 upgrade (95B-998-537-6N3 and 95B-419-938-H-5Q0), combining them with the version of the wheel that comes without the drive mode dial (991-044-400-32-A34). These parts lend a nice, clean look and feel to the upgrade.

Thanks for posting; it looks great! Which airbag did you use? (part number, please)
You can probably do better if you shop around, maybe a LOT better. Someone in one of these threads bought an airbag on eBay for a much better price, but he reportedly got a letter from the US DOJ warning that it was a counterfeit part. So I decided not to go that route.
Edit: I'm not sure what the difference is between this airbag and the 95B-880-201-AE-A34 part mentioned by ottodawg earlier in the thread, which appears to have been superseded by 95B-880-201-BN-A34. That one is a lot cheaper but it's not clear if it's the leather version. The 9P1 part was evidently introduced with the 2016 Spyder and also used in the GT3 RS and GT2 RS, so I may have just paid a lot more $$$ for the same Macan airbag that you'd get with the 95B-880-201-BN-A34 part number. It seems to be the same as the one in my Macan, anyway...

Larson,
Thank you very much for posting this. I'm with you -- I'll pay the extra for the assurance of an airbag that will work perfectly and hope I'll never need to use it.
I'd pieced together a similar list of part numbers but was wanting to do some validation before ordering. Instead, you've done it for me, and I can get to ordering now. (My local dealer's service manager indicated previously that he'd price match other online dealership pricing.)
That said, I don't mind the false aluminum / fake bolts, so it'll be just the airbag, steering wheel, and replacement bolt for me. (+ GPS adapter)
No prob, good luck with it. This mod would still be a bargain at twice the cost. I should've done it years ago.
I installed it on Saturday, and wow what a difference in feel. Definitely a mod that's worth it.
My dealer was interested in seeing this done, so he beat the online pricing by $100. Combined with no shipping or haz shipping costs, I ended up $200 under what I would have paid if I ordered online. Plus, the delivery was super quick: ordered the wheel, airbag, and bolt from the dealer on the 20th and it was ready for pickup the 25th. I also ordered the GPS module on 20th, and they had it to me (from Shenzhen) by the 24th.
Thanks again, Larson, for confirming the airbag and wheel part numbers.

PKK3,
I still need clarification on the part number for the air bag. Did you go with the less expensive Macan air bag or the more expensive air bag? Is it actual leather or vinyl? What part number did you go with and what was the price? Was your OEM wheel multi function or did you convert it to multi function with the gps adapter? Does the neutral function work when you pull and release both paddles at the same time?
Jim
I have a swapped wheel and for whatever reason my airbag is NOT lining up in the center of the wheel. It also causes horn to go off whenever there is extra pressure on the steering wheel on that one side of I drive over a bump. Any advice on what I can do to align it better? I did the install myself so possibly messed something up.

Jim, I went with the 9P1-880-201-AN-A34 airbag, which was $1370+ish via my dealer w/ no shipping costs. YMMV for pricing. When I was shopping online, shipping estimates generally ran $80-$100 for the hazardous shipping of the airbag.
I made that choice for a few reasons.
1. Airbags are safety critical devices. I want to know it will work. So for me, just in case there was some deployment difference, it was worth the $250 increase from the Macan's vinyl $850 to get the vinyl 991.2 bag. (Same plug and same exterior do not mean the same internals.)
2. Buying it from the dealer guaranteed authenticity - avoiding flgfish's ebay & DOJ issues.
3. I saw comments about the Macan's being clearly vinyl, which I verified in person. I was willing to pay the incremental $250 for the leather since the surface of the 991.2 airbag is more featured on the steering wheel vs the 991 airbag. The one above is leather, you can tell by the trailing 3 digit code (A34 = with leather vs 5Q0 = without leather), the feel, and the way it absorbs leather conditioner.
A double paddle pull does not put the car in neutral.
The GPS adapter was required for the conversion to retain multifunction and heating.
I went from 991.1 full multifunction with heating:
to 991.2 full multifunction with heating:

Sounds like the airbag is not installed correctly. Ensure the 2 locating pins for the airbag are in the 2 holes marked in green below. The bag should click into place as shown in this video:
Obviously, you should disconnect the battery for ~10 minutes before fiddling with it. I bear no responsibility for your actions or their consequences based on this advice.
I have a 991.1 4S sport chrono with mf and heated steering wheel. Looking to upgrade to the 991.2 steering wheel. It's almost impossible to find the right steering wheel without the paddles with the right airbags in Brown Espresso.
My question: has anyone used a pdk steering wheel (much easier to find) in a MT car and removed the paddles? Would it work?
Anyone know the part number for the bezils that go behind the steering wheel multifunction controls in black? The dealer keeps ordering me the ones for the NON multifunction steering wheel.

Not sure which of these parts you are referring to:
