HFS 991 college course extra credit

Got your nice pre-owned 991???

Missing a few interior leather, Alcantara, or carbon fiber options?? Want to make your car a bit "your own"??

You can order new OEM pieces or contact one of these high quality suppliers. OEM quality at some savings. Still not Fleabay cheap. You get what you pay for though. They use OEM core parts too.

http://www.dbcarbon.com

http://www.macarbon.com

----------------

Two of the best Porsche OEM suppliers in the USA. Every single part of your car can be purchased here. Anything from logo valve caps, to a new engine.

Suncoast in Florida and Sunset in Oregon. I still get the two fumbled up! I've saved a lot of $$$ over the years with these guys.

http://www.suncoastparts.com

http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com

No fancy shopping friendly website at Sunset. A call is needed many times for help. Known to have the best prices.

-------------------

Looking at OEM or aftermarket wheels?? Many times they have like new "take off" OEM wheels are great prices.

Nobody knows Porsche better than these guys. These guys know Porsche wheel offsets, etc. better than the aftermarket guys themselves.

What is the difference btw Carfax and Autocheck. Do I need to check both, or one is sufficient?

I like CarFax better. Maybe more popular?

I think you'd be ok with just a CarFax. Having both can't hurt either. I don't recall ever seeing something one had that the other didn't. Maybe someone has??

In the final steps of a negotiation with a dealer. Car is missing PSE and I need something to put me over the top. What is the dealer costs on parts/install PSE? I know it would cost me ~$4000 as a consumer. Thanks

Their cost? Probably like $2,700 installed on the higher end off the top of my head.

But sales, parts and service typically have separate financial performance goals, so it's not always easy for sales to get parts and service to do 'at cost' work just so they can make a sale....

Carfax typically has much more service information than the other vin checkers... They still only have what is reported, but I've seen carfax and autofax on the same vehicles where Carfax has a dozen or so service entries and autofax has zero.

No problem. Good luck with the negotiating. The number I gave you has some cushion in it. Bare, bare bones cost installed probably closer $2,400-$2,500, so negotiating something above that throws them a little room to make them happy.

Carfax is owned by IHS, a business analytics conglomerate. Autocheck is owned by Experian, a credit-reporting company.

With Carfax, you can get really detailed maintenance/service records, e.g.:

This does require the dealer to sign up with Carfax for data collection, however; and not every dealer chooses to do so.

Carfax tends to provide a more holistic and useful timeline view of the total life of the car, especially if it has had multiple owners. It also includes accident details, but the downside here is that some of those "accidents" can be false positives - e.g., a shopping cart that hits a bumper gets typed into the database as a "major collision."

I know some people who work in dealerships that have been migrating towards Autocheck because it is apparently less expensive than Carfax for report generation.

Personally, I prefer Carfax because the report is easier to read and understand; but neither is an absolute guarantee. No matter if you get a Carfax or an Autocheck, I would want to get an independent PPI performed.

So it looks like the mileage was just a typo, but this car was purchase by the dealership. Is that unusual for a non-Porsche dealership to purchase a 911? If it were a purchase at auction the auction would've come up on the carfax right? I'm getting close to pulling the trigger but wanted to see if there're any flags I should be thinking about.

Did you ask where they got it from?

Have they given you any info?
