Why is the surge on used pricing? I've been watching and seems right now the pricing is noticeably higher then say 3months ago? Any one feels the same? Not that long ago helped one friend landed a deal that seems to be impossible to have for current pricing(68k shipped for a 17k miles nicely optioned 17 base .2 110k msrp 15 months warranty etc) Now the same dealer is asking 5k or higher for similar conditioned inventory, and barely any base .2 is advertising under 70k unless it has 40/50k miles.

I would think the price increases are due to covid-19. Less people trading in, buying new = less used cars.

100%. I’ve been watching 991.2 pricing for the last 18 months or so. Sold my 997 in June, so I’m fully ready to pull the trigger but I can’t bring myself to pay more than prices of a few months ago. Lots of theories behind the bump, but I don’t think it can last. I’ll hold off until winter if I have to.

^This, plus some (many?) people who relied totally on public transportation are rethinking that decision.

Yes, to all of the above. Prices on average for used 911s are the highest they have been in 9 months. I am waiting.

Summer driving season increases the price. It goes back down in Sept/Oct

Less people are buying new and trading in cars so the demand for used is going up.

This is a much more pronounced than the typical summer bump. That’s why people are taking note.

Regarding pricing going up...

Yes to what everyone has said. The prices have increased for sure. I just purchased my car, which is a '17 C2 manual CPO for $79K. They accidentally listed it again over the last weekend and had a flood of calls on it! I can't find anything even close to it right now (MSRP $110K). Everything seems to be $5-$7K more at this point at a minimum. In early June, by one day, I missed a '17 manual with MRSP of $106K that had 31K miles on it for $71K. At the time, I couldn't make my mind up, but now really wish I'd pulled the trigger. It didn't have all the options I wanted, but it was close.

As others have said, the CPO sales were at a record last month. That is factoring into the pricing for sure. If the demand is high and available cars is low, the pricing will go up (Rolex model).

Covid19 has created irrational markets in many area. Retail automotive is one of them. The pipeline for new car inventory is not flowing normally. Not many people are trading their cars for new ones. Drive past a few dealerships and you can see fewer cars on the lot.

It is a challenging time to be a buyer. And equally for the seller.

If not urgent to buy, I would sit it out until some level of normalcy returns.

As was posted above, performance car prices are almost always higher in the Spring/Summer. Best time to buy is always the Fall/early Winter time periods, particularly around the Holidays right before year end. Same with the collectible market, but that's changed quite a bit as auctions rule the day. The only exception is when the economy gets really bad, then it's an entirely different animal. Reality is Porsche i believe with the 911 has made a long term mistake moving away from the manual tranny option. Time will tell, but i wouldn't be surprised if it makes a comeback. The 992 pricing and options available aren't exactly knocking folks over. You couple that with folks not wanting to sell privately right now with this virus and ultimately there is a reduced supply of cars at the cheaper price points. It's still pretty easy to find cars north of 100k.

Here you go my friends:

I'm gonna wait this one out... hahah. I wish I pulled the trigger in March but I can't justify the prices they're at right now.

So happy I found this thread today. I will wait as well. Missed on a sweet one and great price but this answered a lot of questions.

Thanks!
