Thank you - could you elaborate a bit more where I would find that (on the Thinkdiag App?)

For .1 cars I believe you don't need programming for this. For my 13 4S all I had to do is turn it off while the car was running and then save it to the key settings. In the car settings menu you have make sure the car remembers last settings (don't remember the exact menu but not hard to find). For .2 cars I think you need programming. Will try when I receive my Thinkdiag.

The 718 folks have done considerable investigating into coding options.

I'd do the same to mine but the unit they sent me was defective and I'm jumping through hoops just getting them to replace it.

Why are they making you run through hoops if the unit is defective? I would think it would be an easy straight exchange.

OK guys, besides the free navigation map update that someone found here, this Thinkdiag device is the coolest gadget ever. Yes, you need an Android device to run it, and yes, if you have an A7 you will learn what a "sideload" is. It's not that difficult, and after that it is smooth sailing. Here is what I accomplished in about 90 minutes of getting to know the program/system and the coding:· Overrev Report accessed (ranges 4-6 =0: great!)

· Brake lights EBD enabled, g-values (-0.65g/-0.35g), speeds (15kph/1kph) and timing (1 sec.) set

· Remapped Coolant Gauge Curve to real (sensor) temperature values

· Set Auto Start/Stop to “remember last setting” in AC menu (thanks for the tip)

· Comfort Key FOB opening/closing for windows and sunroof

· Wiper Teardrop Function ON

· Turn light one-touch set to 5x (instead of 3x)

· Front DLR 4-point LEDs always on, even when headlights on

· Cluster Lights (Speedometer/RPMs) always on

· Seatbelt Chime off (Warning still in Cluster Display)

· Spoiler extend/retract speed reduced by 10kph (80kph/50kph)

· Expert Menu permanently enabled

I did find out that most of the 718-programming works just fine, and occasionally on my 2019 991.2, the respective "switches" are in different places of the sub-menus. But all are very easy to work with.

If anybody in the Tampa-Bradenton-Sarasota-North Port Area wants to try this out before buying their own Thinkdiag and/or Android Tablet, send me a message and come by. This thing is absolutely worth it!

Yeah, you'd THINK that's how it would go, but no........

I sent a message to support. I got a message back a day later telling me to send pix. I did. Another day passes, I get another request to send a video proving that it doesn't work. Ok, I make a clip and send it. A day later, no they can't see the attachment, and send me a 'wetransfer' link. Which is expired. So I zipped the video and sent that with my reply of "link is expired". Another day passes and I get a reply telling me "we tried the link and it worked". I'm like WHAT THE FSCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? Why am I, the customer, jumping through these hoops? I'm sure as hell not signing up for some chinese web transfer website just to send them proof their damned thing came DOA. It was only by chance that I even managed to give it a twist and discovered the problem.

So now another day will pass and I fully expect yet another set of excuses/hoops.

Upside is I used a woodworking clamp to squeeze the hell out of it to get it working long enough to see if it worked. I tweaked the turn signal from 3 blinks to 5. And turned off the seatbelt chimes. We wear 'em, just don't need the nagging. I ran out of time to bother struggling further with it. At this point I've been screwing around trying to get it retuned LONGER than it took them to sell me this one.

So, yeah, it does seem to work, but gawd help you if it doesn't. I'm stubborn though, not going to write off the $68... yet....

Here's the clip I sent. Sorry for the poor quality, site here won't let me upload large videos (understandably). GIF video sort of gets the point across. The white ring around the base of it won't light up green until I put a LOT of bending pressure on the case (not the pins). Then it lights up green, but will go right out if I release pressure.

I should also add that since this '18 is new to me I was prepared to question whether the OBD2 port was working or not. So I unplugged it from the metal frame and checked that the pins/wires were in good shape (they are). The metal frame is somewhat flexible and would not tolerate the bending force this needed. I also tried another ODB2 dongle I had from past vehicles (a Torque BT dongle) and that worked right away. Both straight into the plug and using a 12" extension I've had for a while. The ODB2 connector has clips on the sides holding it into the frame, and there's enough clearance on the sides to get a screwdriver in there to push them inward enough to release the connector from the car. FYI if anyone comes 'round via search results later looking for how to remove the OBD2 plug.

I have the smart top module and it is capable of doing more than what these tweaks will provide.

The T-Design module, likewise, remembers more settings than these would.

So from a basic sense, yeah, if you only wanted bare-bones controls the modules wouldn't be needed. I had the module for my Cayenne and liked that it remembered everything that was set via the console buttons, not just start/stop. Suspension, sport mode, etc. Don't have that same range of features in the Targa so I don't know if I'll get the module.

Great stuff!! Would be curious to know if the cluster light change can be accomplished on the 991.1 models.

I have enabled my top to go up with the door handles and I have comfort functions via door lock set to no. For some reason, the door handles don't work to put to the top down.

Attached is the 718 Coding Guide that me and Croc 2.0 put together that covers most of the “hacks” for the 718 that have been discovered. Most of these were not created by either of us. Note that “not done or tested” does not mean that the “hack” does not work, it just means that it was not done or tested by me or Croc 2.0. I don't know if these will work for a 991. Although Frankfurt1470's post above suggests that many of them should work.

What is the free nav updates? Is that done with your think diag or are you referring to MIB? If with your think diag, I saw something about the need to deactivate production mode before coding the pcm. If so, can that be done with a think diag?

If you come across any errors or have any additional “hacks” that should be added to this guide, please message us on the 718 forum. You could also try sending me a message on this forum.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Also curious about the "free nav update" - have tried searching but haven't been able to find the post - a different forum perhaps?
