Rolled the dice and ordered one. I'll report back what works.

Wait - let me understand this: Just the re-programming of that darned fixed 194deg Coolant Temp issue would cost about $300 if I have it done externally.

$100 and and Android Phone will do it?????

😳😳😳

Default Android Head Unit as the Interface?

Would one of the Android Head Units work as the interface for this? I’d be curious if it could, as I’d just swap out the PCM instead of buying an Android tablet.

It could but I honestly doubt it. I never used Android Auto but you would need to install any app (not sure if it restricts the type of apps you can install) to install the Thinkdiag App. Then it would need to be able to connect to the controller via Bluetooth (does Android Auto need to have a permanent Bluetooth connection to your phone? if it's the case, does it allow dual connection?).
Many hurdles I would say but maybe possible.

The ios and android apps are different. The iOS app doesn’t have all of the coding functionality.

From what I have been reading on these forums is that the Android head units (if you were so inclined to swap out the PCM) have customizable UI's just like the Android tablets. I am talking about the Base UI and not AA or CP. My thoughts are that if the Android HU are basically Android tablets with inputs for our cars, then maybe we can use the HU's with the Thinkdiag.

I don't see why it would not be possible. The Android HU load apps just like a phone or a tablet from the playstore.

Just ordered mine for $66.64. If this thing does half of what it sounds like it can (and doesn't brick my PCM) I'll be happy.
Now Im starting to wonder if this tool will work for my 991.2
Any feedback appreciated.

Hey all. I wanted to mention I bought this android tablet last year, opened the box but never ended up using it as I have a Google pixel. If anyone is wanting a basic android device to use your Thinkdiag, I will sell it for $60 shipped free to anywhere in the lower 48 states:

SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 8.7" 32GB WiFi Android Tablet, Compact, Portable, Slim Design, Kid Friendly, Sturdy Metal Frame, Expandable Storage, Long Lasting Battery, US Version, 2021, Gray https://a.co/d/j2Ovwqb

I would love to buy it.

Can you send me a DM? I tried yesterday but you apparently didn’t get it.

Or text 941-666-6717.
Thanks.

Still wondering if this unit will work with 991.2. I checked the website and it lists compatibility with 991 up to 2017 (only). I guess I'll be the guinea pig and report back...

I’ve coded 987, 981, 718, 991.1 and 991.2 and 992 with it

Also coded my wife’s BMW and my LR4
