Doing a little maths, looks to be about 20psi assuming the stock baseline is 13psi.

I agree with this perspective, and add that the % difference in the area under the curves over a select rpm range (ideally choosable by the individual based on preferences) would tell the whole story.

Afte skimming this post, the most obvious suggestion from my point of view for the OP is to buy a power powerful car and call it a day. Many won’t buy a tuned car on the secondary market because of potential issues. And many don’t need more power. Why did you buy the C4? Price and ability to tune. Buy a 991.2 4GTS. Or at least take one for a drive. I think you will be very unhappy if you have problems post tune.

To the OP... thanks for sharing all your data... you've put lots of information in one place here.

Now, gently, I have to say you are seriously perseverating on this. I mean way, way overboard. I can sometimes do this too so I believe I recognize when someone else is doing it. And this thread could be put in the dictionary as an example, brother.

Any ecu tune is going to come with some degree of risk. You're never going to be satisfied unless you accept that every company's solution comes with risk. I am no expert but I would also say that the solutions offered by established businesses that have been tuning Porsches for years are going to be more alike than not. There are differences but you seem to be thinking that there is some silver bullet you can discover that will magically slay the werewolf. Nope, for the most part they all do the same thing. If you can except the risk of modding at all.... then just choose someone who has considerable experience with 911s, has a good track record and is easy to work with. All the detail is twisting you into a knot with little value added for it.

And lastly, about your interactions with companies in this thread. I get that you want all your questions answered. But a company that is busy probably won't want to pick through page after page of detail to find hidden questions from one potential customer who is in an endless loop of comparitive perseveration, lol. Softronix probably gave up on you because they started a dialogue then you kept digging into different other companies and looking at state filing details! I run a business and I can tell you at some point it isn't worth the hassle unless the customer is going to be a large source of business.

I hope in the end you get what you want for your car. But I hope you don't develop high blood pressure while doing it.

I got the C4 as it's my first 911 and wanted to make sure that it was the right platform for me before dropping GTS money, plus I live in Missouri where there is winter. This is going to be my daily driver for the most part and I plan on driving the car and enjoying it. Power to me is like how big of a TV do i need, is there really one large enough? I obviously don't have to have it but who doesn't want more. I'm not sure on the tune or not, it does seem like the overall consensus is that they are safe but obviously there can still be issues. All signs point towards getting upgraded diverter valves with most tunes though, I don't think that's that big of a deal, I just wish it was crystal clear.

Is anything in life crystal clear without a upside and a downside? Don't get the tune. You will constantly be worrying about it and it will ruin the enjoyment of the car for you.

I think you're interpreting me wrong by saying high blood pressure, this isn't causing any pressure or stress for me. I tend to be a detail-oriented person, one of the reasons I really appreciate Porsche vs many other brands. I actually own 5 businesses, one with ~50 locations, and just can't agree on terms of giving up on clients (especially on public forums), I find I learn quite a bit by talking to my clients/potential clients, probably more when the client is being "difficult" than not. I actually think that I have learned a lot about ECU tunes and am genuinely figuring out strengths and weaknesses between ECU tuning companies.

I know that I cannot avoid all risks with an ECU tune, but I can't avoid all risks with any vehicle, I'm looking for a very low degree of risk (~5% chance of something going bad directly because of tune) if something happens and I am the 1 in 20, so be it, but I'm not looking to have an issue where 30% of people having a problem. I do tend to believe that with emissions requirements in the US that there might be a lot held back in the engines to conform, whereas if these constraints weren't there it could potentially be better for the engines, while also giving more power (my own thoughts, no proof behind them)

My issue is about the degree of risk if 1 in 20 has an issue or less then I'm fine, but if it's 30% of people this would be very different. If you went to a casino and your odds were 1 in 20 vs 3 in 10 (inverse for winning but the point holds true) wouldn't that change your willingness to play?

If i get an ECU tune, it wont bother me post-decision, I just want to make the decision if its right for me and which solution meets my wants.

This is the perfect example of why I wouldn't want to deal with us Porsche owners......oh boy, what a mess.

OP, very good reason why a vendor wants you to call them is this whole topic, it's better to talk to you in person to deal with your concerns instead of you being on here WAY overthinking things and getting frustrated. Now why was I reading this again????

I'm not sure why things are going negative towards me here, I understand that I am a detail oriented person, but this forum for me was to get perspectives and answers from other people that have had experience. When calling any ECU tuning company, they have something to gain which creates a bias, yes information is good from them but I don't believe it necessarily gives you the whole picture. Do you think that if I called any of the tune manufactures they would say, "yeah ECU tunes are bad for your car, don't give us your money?" I doubt it, talking to real world people that have nothing to lose or gain gives me more confidence. I am just trying to best understand what is out there and the level of risk associated.

FWIW I will go with a Softronic Tune this Spring for the 911 GTS. The MyGenius is nothing fancy, but works. Have used it for my C63, and will be using the same setup (different MyGenius) when tuning my E63s.

Picked up a Dragy yesterday, waiting for Spring to come. For some reason I was envisioning a device 5x as large. The size of a stick of gum.

Not in too much of a hurry as I love winter for the skiing

I have not seen a record of any 991.2 having any failures related specific to a tune. Not saying they have not happened-just have not heard of or seen one example as of yet. Diverter valves break on stock power levels over time-so that's a place to upgrade regardless. Whichever way you go, I am sure you will be satisfied in the end.

Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback! If only I had know about the diverter valves, I just had the major service (spark plugs) done, it would have been pretty easy to have done it then. Ok diverter valves are getting added to the project list!

Keep us posted on your results in spring. I am in no rush either however if work ever lets up ill probably make my decision in a week or so. I'm absolutely fine with myGenius, i think thats superior to professional install/update.

I suspect the failure rate is well below 1%.

With all the posting about water pump issues, door card issues, fake sound pumped into the cabin, you would definitely know if there was an issue with tunes.

The only things I see regarding tunes are:

1. Cobbs original tunes made more power.
2. HUGE power can result in PDK issues / slipping / not putting down the power.
3. Can you tune at home? versus needing a dealer.
4. Can a tuner do/offer a full custom tune?
5. If you want aftermarket turbos, you need a totally custom tune. Why is anybody surprised?

5% would be a HUGE failure rate
