Me too...then I look at possible "upgrades" or "replacements" and those are all 25-50% more than pre-pandemic prices.

I'm 76, not 32.
So I sold my 991.2 C2S with X51 PowerKit, mods and tune, and found a deal on a 991.2 911 Turbo to drive while I'm waiting for a Turbo S at a reasonable price.
This Turbo is a rocket ship compared to my 500 plus HP C2S.
I think Porsche is sandbagging on the 911 Turbo engine ratings.

I agree with you on the concept. This crazy market has created a lot of unexpected opportunities. Speaking only for myself, I'm staying in because there is no better alternative. My local dealer offered me $30K more than I paid for my CPO 2017 TTS about a year ago. But I want to keep my 991 more than I want $30K.

I don't think pricing is out of control now. I think it's very much in control.

Buying is what is out of control...

I agreed and that's why I am staying in. I could sell my 2012.5 .1s for 5k more that what I paid for 3 years ago (bought it as a CPO) I want to get into a .1 GT3 but they are asking ridiculous amount of money for those these days.....(vs pre pandemic)

So i decided to stay put.......I figure I would pickup a Turbo S or go straight to a Tacayan Turbo or turbo S in a few years and keep the .1S as a "classic"

Still, I respect anyone taking full advantage of this unusual market and recouping their investment. I don't think anyone predicted this weird bubble we're all in now with these cars, but I would go so far as to say these 991 inflationary times will never come again.

agreed

and except for a few very specific examples, this situation only affects people who are buying for first time/after a long time.

Otherwise, for most cars that I would consider as an attainable "upgrade" to my .1 GTS, the price delta is pretty much the same as pre-covid. As in, I still need about the same amount of extra $$$$ to upgrade after selling my car to a Targa GTS, .1 Turbo or .1 GT3

Even my "pedestrian" 2015 Carrera 2 got an offer last week from the local dealer that was over what I paid for it last January. It's got 70k on the clock and is pretty "normal" for a 991.1, but to the earlier posts, if I let it go (which I'm not), I'd just get another 911- I'd love a targa, but I can't afford one anyway- and overpay. It is absolutely crazy. My wife's GL450 is even getting emails from dealers to sell. Never seen anything like this.

I thought a lot about this thread, and came to the conclusion that the only "smart" move would be to get into a new car at MSRP. I was actually getting tired of having a manual (*GASP*), and always had a crush on fast Audis so I picked up a brand new 2021 RS5 a couple weeks ago. Other cars on the list were an M2 CS, RS6, Cadillac CT5V Blackwing, and even a new Supra. The RS5 made the most sense... especially considering the car I REALLY wanted was another 911- I just can't get a new one right now.

So I just put down a deposit... to get on a list... for a new 992 sometime in 2022 (hopefully). In the meantime I get to drive a fantastic car I've been obsessing over to basically treat as a 1 year lease; that also happens to be an exceptional year-round daily driver, so I got to get rid of what I was using for that role as well (a 2018 S4). Works for me in my situation- but I will concede that the decision was PAINFUL, and while I was at the dealer I came very close to just grabbing my keys and jumping back in the 991.

But basically I got to have the experience of owning my dream car for a year, and then got an unexpected boost towards the brand new 911 I've always wanted to order... I just have to go without having a 911 for a while. It'll be easy in the winter months where I'd be lucky to back it out of the garage about once every two weeks. The spring may be rough but hopefully I'll at least have an allocation by then...

I totally agree. A new 911 does not do that much for you, and in a few years, Porsche will bring out a new model, and your $90K will have been wasted. That's why I'm keeping and enjoying my 997 C4S!

Well, I'm 78 now and I'm not interested in a 550hp rocket ship. I enjoy my 997, plenty of power for a senior!

That is *exactly* where I'm at (and I imagine a lot of folks). Figured a GT3 touring, used, would just about do me as my last ICE porsche, but the rarity/speculation/inflation/covid made that impossible. Well, unreasonable, or unpalatable, let's say.

My approach is therefore to lighten and tweak my 991.1, enjoy what I have and stick with it, and book a GT3 drive at PECLA or PECATL twice a year. It's cheaper all in all, and it satisfies the urge. Also, I still got back seats...

PS: 991.1 "Keep the 991.1 as a classic", that is kinda funny... Come drive my 1972 ;-) And even that is a step over SWB 911s or old. I'm honestly at the point where I'll probably sell my classic 911 and buy an electric city car for the boring stuff, save my 991 for fun stuff.

You can turn a 991.1 into a Touring-Lite for not too much money. I’ve whooped a couple on the track already.
