FWIW this was my experience yesterday

Took my 991.1 50th in for the heat shield recall, and then they recommended while the car was in to get the 6 yr/60k belt replacement done (needs bumper off) as well as cleaning out carbon accumulation on the throttle bodies

Thought I would save on labor for the belt and throttle body cleanup, but SA said bumper didn't need to come off for heat shield recall so no labor savings

Yes, I realize this. But we DIY most of the stuff ourselves. We are much more careful than the dealership. So yes, if it can be avoided, I'd prefer it.

Thanks for the info! I may mention this to them, but it may just be easier for them to take it off since they're still "learning. "

My SA said the bumper has to come off for the heat shield. Confused.

The rear bumper definitely had to come off. What I'm disappointed about is that one of the air filters had to get changed but I wasn't told if I wanted the other side replace as well. I would have gladly paid for that. For those that are due, be sure to inquire in advance and get that done.

Just had it done. While they had the bumper off, I had the air filters changed and the belt replaced. Had the air filters. Total bill was $189. 😀😀😀

I had the recall done last month and no mention from the SA about changing one of the air filters. I have fresh BMC filters so will not be happy if they replaced it with a stock filter. On a different note the pdk transmission seems to be shifting a lot better...especially in regular mode. A lot more aggressive and downshifting in a good way. It wasn’t “bad” before but a noticeable change. I wonder if the memory got reset. I think someone on this thread posted something similar.

I also have a 991 ( 911-50 ) had the heat shield recall done last week, during the recall they changed the old belt for me with a new Porsche one. My cost for the new Porsche belt and installation during the recall process was $177.00 out the door.. The old belt looked good to me but six years old...

That's a great price, Homeless, good job.

It's a "learning" transmission, so maybe they did a hard re-set (power disconnect?) and now it's learning and adapting to your specific driving style.

Just like Homeless, this was a smart move and a very decent price from the dealership. Keep the old belt as an emergency spare.

Since these are not official recalls and are service campaigns... are those of us out of warranty eligible to have this work done at no cost, or would we pay out of pocket?

And they will most likely offer a loaner car.

Yep, getting mine done on June 23 and already confirmed getting a loaner. I am out of warranty. They told me rear bumper has to come off so will have them check serpentine belt and change if needed (2015 with 23K miles) and put in my supplied BMC air filters. They told me it would take about 4 hours.

There is no way they can do this without removing the bumper cover.
