991.1 to 991.2 steering wheel update and upgrade
#106
My 991.1 has no heating wheel, but the 991.1 clock Spring has a nook for the new wheel (991.2) with heating to securely plugged into. That nook is just plastic without any connections. You are ok.

Can confirm. There is a blank in the clock spring for the heat to plug into that basically just holds the connector. You are good to go.

How do you trip the odometer with the upgraded steering wheel? A previous owner did the upgrade and for me, the left wheel mutes and unmutes the audio when i press (even if i press and hold)

Should be a button in your instrument panel similar to AdamSanta85's above:
Turn to adjust instrument lighting level, press to reset trip odometer. Not affected by the steering-wheel mod, or at least it shouldn't be.

991.2 wheel into 991.1 - stumped!
Hi everyone. I need some help and hoping this community can come to my rescue! Here is my situation:
991.2 GT wheel into a 991.1
Manual Gearbox
no MF -> no MF
no heat -> no heat
just airbag
I expected this to be plug and play no adapters needed.
I am getting a stage 2 below threshold error that I cannot clear. See pic of ohm readings. If I put the old wheel/airbag back on, everything works and ohm readings match.
I have tried 2 airbags, 2 wiring harnesses, and I have confirmed with Paul at GPS that no adapter is needed for just an airbag. Yet, same issue.
I’m not sure what else to try as this is probably the most basic swap. Dealer is no help and haven’t found an expert in the area that has experience in this space. Everyone tells me it’s plug and play.
Anyone have any ideas? I really like this wheel. Help!

Great looking new wheel.
you are right, this is the simplest swap of all, and strange you are getting this error. I have never seen this before. I did think that one of the gps adapters was still required every time you upgraded from a 991.1 wheel to a 991.2 wheel, even without heating or multifunction, but if Paul says you don’t, he’s the expert.
there is a thread in 6speed with someone having similar issues on cayenne, without having messed with the wheel and airbag. The fact that your error goes away by reverting back to the old wheel, and having tried multiple wiring harnesses and airbags makes me super stumped.
here’s the thread from 6speed. Some sort of recall fix at dealer sorted out the issue, but actually unclear what issue was

bummer, because that new wheel looks so good

thanks! I agree. I’m really frustrated. I’m going to put the old one back in one more time just to confirm all resolves. If it does, I don’t know what else to try. I even thought about buying a new one off Suncoast just to confirm. Crazy! This is getting expensive.. ugh
BTW, I saw you are in Dublin, I lived in New Albany from 2013-2019. If you were there, I bet we crossed paths, I was pretty active in the car community there. Did a ton of track time at mid-Ohio among others.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Yeah, used to work at ANF out in new albany till 2008, now in Dublin. I've done a couple years at Mid Ohio with PCA, starting 2 years ago. And of course involved with cars and coffee. I'm sure we probably cross paths at some point. Although I bought my first porsche in 2019, now have 3 - they keep multiplying lol. Small world. Hope texas is treating you well.
If you put your old wheel on and having issues, then what I gather is likely your clock spring went bad somehow.

Nice! Love the multiplying comment! lol.
Yeah, I’m gonna try the old wheel again. Good luck with the shifter, I have the OEM shifter in my 991, but I hear the numeric is better. Good luck!

thanks. Question is if the only wires I have are those that connect the airbag, where would the GPS adapter connect? The only connection on their installation diagrams is for MF wires and not the airbag wires. Have you installed one? Thanks for the help.
