991.1 to 991.2 steering wheel update and upgrade
So I decided to take the plunge and trust the various things I read on the subject here and I upgraded the steering wheel in my 2013 c2s from a 991.1 style pdk carbon fiber multifunction with heating to a 991.2 paddle shifter pdk multifunction carbon with heating style. I am happy to report full and utter success with no problems run into. Scary at first but truly plug and play and makes huge interior upgrade difference.
steering wheel from suncoast great price for $1000
991.2 style airbag for $450 on eBay (came with additional airbag harness which wasn’t needed as the steering wheel comes with the harness)
https://www.suncoastparts.com/mm5/me...D&Store_Code=P
GPS Adapter-X $550 which is required for the 991.2 wheel to “talk” to the 991.1 computer system- truly plug and play with no additional coding needed. No trips to the dealer for any reason.
https://gpsadapter.us/
installation was truly straight forward. There’s a little awkwardness with Paul Li’s gps adaptor directions due to minor language issues (you can tell the company is in China and English not first language), but it was fairly clear and no huge hurdles or information gaps for installation.
feel free to shoot me messages if you have questions about the upgrade. I took a bunch of pics of various steps in the process. Honestly I was most worried about accessing the center console to install part b of the gps adapter x (which enables to steering wheel round toggle switch to access all your sport buttons), and even that part was much easier than I expected.
had to disconnect battery to safely do this project, the only thing I had to reset/relearn after reconnecting battery was the drivers side power window function. As previously posted on here and 6speedonnline, that’s a quick 10 second fix.
here are some pics. Pretty fun and dramatic upgrade. Love the paddles and the round toggle button, as well as the increased metal look of the 991.2 wheel vs 991.1 wheel.

Does the Sport Response button have any function after the swap?
Also, I assume that the "Individual" setting on the control wheel does nothing, as that didn't originally exist in the 991.1 interface?

I agree it felt slightly sketchy buying a takeoff airbag, but it was perfect condition, oem, all the original stickers, etc. I was impressed. If you want the eBay sellers info let me know.

450$US seems a good deal for oem airbag. Dealerships wanted triple the price. Ouch

You can even sell your oem wheel to get some money back. I’ll be selling my sportdesign wheel, oem dash kit & PDK ****.

So I was looking at Suncoast to see which steering wheel I would need. My 991.1 has an Espresso interior, and my current multifunction steering wheel is finished in that same leather.
But on Suncoast, the only finish options for the 991.2 multifunction GT steering wheel with control **** are Black; Agate; and Beige.
Is this right? Did 991.2 cars only come with steering wheels in these leather colors, no matter what the overall interior color was?
