4. My SA has not heard of repeat WP issues after the new WP was installed.
5. Not all 991.2 cars experience this issue. Most don’t.
6. Impacted cars typically have lower milage.
7. They needed to remove bumper and several other components to fully access the WP.
My '17 C4S is on it's 3rd WP. Orig died approx 13K miles, new model WP lasted only about 3K miles.

My SA told me that likely cause of new version WP failure was first replacement was done incorrectly (by a different dealership, prior to my owning the car) and they likely didnt fully flush the system (the orig seal failure apparently would leave debris behind in the system.)

Very interesting, I recall my SA advising me yesterday about them needing to fully flush the system but I failed to pick up on that and ask him why?

Thanks very much scottlma! Good point and something this Forum needs to know.

Kind regards,
Chris

Received my 991.2 C4S back today. SA was fantastic and informative throughout repair.
Obviously I would have preferred not to have had this issue but service support including valet pick up/ drop off was good.

Enclosed is the service description on the Warranty Service Work Order:

coolant leaking from front impeller seal of water pump. Coolant is leaking externally and internally into the vacuum system. Coolant made its way to the valve block. Removed rear bumper and spoiler. Replaced coolant pump. Drained and bled coolant. Lowered engine and replaced valve block. Ran val prior to repair. Performed coolant bleed with a scan tool. Cleaned engine. Test drove and verified repair.

Hi, my fathers 2017 991.2 targa has now for the third time a leaking water pump. The two first times the pump was replaced under warranty, but now the car is more than 3 years old and in Belgium there is only 2 years of warranty. What can we expect from the dealer? This is not normal I suppose.

To close the loop here - Mine was replaced under warranty, took about a week to get the part and get it installed. New part on my invoice is: 0PB-121-010-D COOLANT PUMP
Shop time was 7 hours if I'm reading the paperwork correctly

cheers!

Interesting. Anyone else with a recent replacement care to post the part number on your paperwork?

Mine was replaced in November '19. The replacement pump number was OPB-121-005-C. So far, so good after only 260 miles (car doesn't get out much in cold weather).

I’m going to contact my SA and give him these WP part numbers and ask why they are different? If I get a good answer, I post back here.

So I spoke with my SA today (Hendrick Porsche Charlotte) and gave him all of the WP part numbers listed in this thread. He agreed with them all stating that they are all correct depending on the engine and transmission type.

Cheers,
Chris

Just purchased a CPO 2017 911 targa 4S with 17,300 miles. Was an early build warranty started 4/17. It was out of state so I was flying in and driving back. Got a call the day before leaving that someone noticed fluid on the showroom floor and need a water pump replacement. I arrived to complete the deal and they agreed to fix the WP pay for my flight home (first class) and ship the car covered to my home once the repair was completed.

What? Who provides service like that anymore? Give some props.

Congrats on the purchase.
