I drive down to Heartland Park in Topeka from Kansas City. Most clubs using the 2.5 mile course. It really is a great and fun track to drive, plus recently resurfaced so in fantastic condition. Lots of money being spent there by the new owners which is great to see.

Not too hard on brakes. At the end of the front straight I was pulling 140 mph in the GTR and getting down to around 60-70 for turn 1, but the hardest braking is at the end of the second straight when you’re getting down from around 120 mph to 30ish for some tight ‘S’ curves at turn 8.

I would never purchase the irons on the GTR as all tests on track mention fade with them. It doesn’t/hasn’t happened with the CCMs that I’ve experienced/read/heard of. If/when I wear them out I hope there will be a ST replacement available or an AP Racing caliper replacement which is the only iron set-up I’d go with.

Thanks
I'd love to test drive one with CCM's but even Renntech says they wouldn't spec them due to cost and the need for more brake or brake cooling anyway.
First hand experience is key. The GTR is fine at the Ring and other medium brake tracks I am sure. Its for me about how they can survive brake killer tracks like Sebring, VIR etc.

Good seeing you Peter.
I bet you didn't get passed much, if at all. You were looking good out there.

Track was at least 2 seconds slower then the last time I was there.
Merc was on Hoosiers, but still impressed me!

For being on Hoosiers I thought he lost a bit of time in the corners and looked a little ‘loose’?

I really don’t think there’s any issues with extra cooling needed on the CCMs on the GTR Peter; the irons yes, but as I said I’d never buy the car with them as they’re not up to the job IMHO.

He was overdriving the car a lot. If he’d clean it up I think he would have been hard to pass.

You could be right, what the cost of the replacement rotors from Mercedes?

I hear that a “Clubsport” version of the GTR will hit the market later this year well in advance of the Black Series. Apparently this car is going to more track focussed with better brakes, less weight and...brake cooling...and possible the E63 S engine. I have my name down at my dealer.

Clubsport as we know it from Porsche would indicate N/A in the US because roll bar etc mot allowed.
If its a track model, I would need to know about it!

Undoubtedly, you're right about the rollbar in USA

But sounds like the Clubsport could come to US with most of the track bits. Sounds like maybe AMG is offering versions of the GT to compete with Porsche:

GTR competes with 911 GT3
GTR Clubsport competes with 911 GT3 RS
GTR Black competes with 911 GT2 RS ???

Just a guess...

That rear end on the GTR was rolling more than I’ve seen on the track. Car is usually much flatter in corners.

Not a Clubsport as Porsche would define it. I already have a roll bar in my GTR as part of the OEM Track Pack...which BTW is under recall to replace the whole roll bar with a new design. My car goes in for two days for the replacement,

Good to know. Do you happen to have a Pic of your rear roll bar now?
