Of course you would even take this car.-no problemo! Man people really talk out their A-- sometimes. Come on. Does anyone have any clue on metal properties when a metal is annealed at an incorrect temperature? Seriously.
Bababooey.

I personally do not believe Porsche would put a car back on the road that is structurally unsound, they understand how to repair a fire damaged car, how much to cut and replace. I would not be concerned other then the diminished value due to the extensive repairs required, but the OP could have the car appraised and ask for some of this to be covered.

And yes I realize the Mac has a carbon tub and the properties of carbon are different than our cars.

Ok, but the largest and most important question is why is PAG playing "whack a mole" with these engine failures when the number of failures clearly points to a design or perhaps a fairly wide spread manufacturing issue. That's not standing behind your product. That's called kicking the can down the road trying to get to warranty expirations.

Further, my sources informed me that PAG didn't come running with a new engine for Rich. THey had the top end redone and when on testing it started eating itself again only then after the top service guy argued with Porsche did they send another engine.

What PAG should do you ask? If they are telling us there is no design issue with these engines, OK then extend the warranty for 10 years as to valve train. They are therefore giving us nothing cause there's no issue and we are all happy and confident. Easy peasy.

If they don't want to and just want to keep playing "whack a mole" until warranties run out...well you have your answer.

Do nothing get nothing.

I've heard paint doesn't like to adhere to burnt metal. On a complete teardown, the solution might be to dip and recoat the shell. I don't think they'll be able to do that on a partially torn down 991. So how do they get it ready for paint?

Top 10 Reasons to be happy for the OP

10. His post generated more excitement on RL than an fxz 991.2 prediction
9. Being offered the title of honorary Smokies mascot by Mayur and Sean
8. Set a new bar for what heat-cycled really means
7. No need to worry about further diminished value from track usage/incidents
6. Will run faster lap times in rebuilt car
5. Gets to drive with all of his mods, knowing that none of them will result in a warranty denial
4. Being taken care of by Porsche, and then some (don't ask for details)
3. Gets new and more reliable G+ series engine
2. May reach 180 track days, all under warranty
1. Still has his sense of humor

For all the guys with more attorneys than the OP, and who could easily get a new car if this happened to them, bravo. Glad that you and Marv are on the same page.

Yeah, seriously. You guys sure have done a good job of trying to make OP feel bad or uncertain.

For those poo-pooing the repair, do you know how MANY track/race cars are rebuilt, repaired, re-tubbed, etc., all the time??? Track/race cars get burned down and are rebuilt. They get crushed and get rebuilt. OP does many++ track days. It'll be fine.

If it's too damaged beyond repair, either Porsche or the body shop will say so. Sheesh.

Not my goal to make the OP feel bad or uncertain. But I have to express my honest opinion on this subject.

The car's sheet metal was worked cold. This imparts some strength to the metal. Heat from in this case the fire removes that strength.

Just because some race cars get rebuilt after a bad off does not mean the car's that sound. It has been years since I have been around race cars but some of them were nothing more than a rough collection of auto parts.

If this car is repaired Porsche is going to "own" that car via its repairs forever. I would think the liability alone would make it say "no" to a repair. And it still might.

If reading this upsets the OP I'm sorry.

It depends on how widespread the problem is. We hear about the cars that have issues, but we hear less about the ones without issues, most of which aren't on RL.

I can't see them doing another recall, with the attendant bad publicity and high cost, if the problem isn't quite widespread and/or a liability issue related to safety. We may just need to live with them honoring warranty coverage during the warranty period, and hopefully also doing the right thing after warranties expire.
