Rich, Good to hear. With the amount of track time you do the Club Sport seems like a great alternative, especially on the safety side. Best, Allan

OP, here's your next track/race car:

https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-a...-for-sale.html

Use the rest of the cash to fund tracking/racing expenses or to add a street car.

OOW and you're on your own.
I guess by the time I'm out of warranty, my business loans will be done and I could afford to replace an engine if necessary.

Rich,
Thanks for keeping us updated. Glad it worked out well for you and you now have options. It is good to know Porsche is standing by the product and its customers.

Maybe I'm over thinking this but I would have expected a guaranteed allocation of a GT car as well as the cash.....

I'm pretty sure you'll find Rich already has that base covered. After all his dealer will be very aware of his hardships :-)

I'd love to keep this car for 30 years if I could feel comfortable with the worst case.
Any time you track a car the stress and wear is exponentially higher. The longer you do it the sooner you need maintenance and or repair.

The E1& F have had issues here and there as we have seen but many more have not even those seeing alot of track time.

Gs have so far proven very reliable even with high track use. There seem to be alot of guys thrashing them at tracks too.

If there ever is an issue more likely than not the CEL warns before you get to a catastrophic event and you are looking at a top end rebuild only if it's valve train wear.

Question for you "smarter than me guys". It seems to me that there has been more top end rebuilds as of late rather then complete new engine replacements other than Rich's, when he actually had the fire. So if you continue to drive the car as hard as you can after the CEL comes on (I realize you can't go as hard) but can you do more internal engine damage therefore requiring a new engine rather than just a top end rebuild? Hopefully you guys understand what I'm trying to ask?

Rich's failure involved the rod destroying the block (core) as I understand.this was likely due to a sizable misfire. It clearly happened at the track at high rpm. What the cel history was before that I don't know. Once the block is shot you need a new engine.

Normally the cel let's you know before catastrophic failure of an issue when the valve timing falls out of parameter which can be caused by bad gas, bad coil etc. If it's valve train wear the cel theoretically will keep coming back. As long as your block is fine it's a top end rebuild.

My limited understanding.

Not sure, but there may be a record of driving it (hard) with a CEL light on which may deny warranty coverage for the new engine.

I doubt there are too many owners on here that would flog the car with a CEL. I wouldn't.

Guys just remember that every time the dealer plugs in a computer to your car the entire car history is automatically transmitted to the factory and the dealer has no control. Big brother is indeed watching!

^^ That's why my car goes to the dealer once a year, bone stock and gets the entire maintenance book thrown at it and more.
