15 more hp compared to 1.991GT3????? WTF? Are they trying to placate the 991RS owners?

Why bother with a 2.991GT3?

Nick - If the motor follows the specs of the Cup, it gains only 10hp but much more torque (~30 ft-lbs). Somehow, it seems like you would be satisfied with 500hp but not 485hp? You realize that is a difference of 3% and will never be felt. But the additional torque (>9%) certainly will be and another big reason for the 991.2 is a more reliable motor (hopefully - but will only be known much later)...

What I see is a 4.0 liter engine from 2011 having 500hp. Certainly it can have the same hp 7 years later, right?

Yes, it certainly could. But this is not the identical 4.0L motor - this is one very closely related to the 4.0L race motor in the GT3R and new Cup and hopefully has improved along the way (even if it might have a smidge less peak hp than the previous 4.0L, it should be overall a better motor and less expensive than any previous model with a 4.0L).

BTW, your last line should reference 991.1 RS, not 991.2 RS (not yet released)

Agree with everything you said and also agree that a increase in torque is more important than 15hp shy of 500hp.

I do. Porsche has always been hesitant to provide substantial increases in hp. But I believe the 2.GT3 will be the last NA GT car. The competition over the years have all gone above 500hp. If the engine is 4L, why reduce its hp?

Grant, I understand that 500hp isn't that much more. But I wonder from a performance standpoint, whether the .2 will distinguish itself from a .1. At 500hp, it would certainly would have.

Yes, it will distinguish itself as the fastest GT3 yet and probably as fast or faster than the last RS. 3% more power means nothing compared to having a fatter torque curve and advances in suspension, tires, aero, etc.

Right, 991.2 GT3 same HP as RS and R as its the same engine.
The 991.2RS is TT so they can go 500HP for the GT3 no problem and call it 499HP to please R and RS owners.

+1

If the .2 is lighter than the .1 then I can see a case for detuning (and that is what it is) the 4L. From a marketing standpoint, they need to do this because if they want to price the car under $150,000 they cannot provide it with the same hp as the R and RS which cost $50,000 more.

Regarding torque, doesn't the R have more torque and hp and yet is slower than the .1 GT3? I know, I know, the R all about driving experience.

Nick - there is no reason to expect the car to lose any significant weight. If you really want the lightest spec, make sure to choose Manual
