The competition (couple years old now and even older with GT2 RS release) already has 675hp (F488 and 675LT).
This.

The rear layout inherently enables it to put down hp more easily than mid-engine, hence why they could offer 625hp back on the old 997 chassis. This new chassis will easily let them eclipse 700hp with only RWD. I think 700 is the magic number for this car, maybe more. They won't need hybrid tech to make it basically the fastest production car available that isn't a million dollar supercar. Some aero and boost will get the job done. Will be a monster.

Unfortunately what they CAN do and what they get production approval for are 2 very different things.

I couldn't image the 991.1RS with 700hp...that'd a widow maker x2.

Is it really a HP limit on the chassis/engine components or more of a torque issue with PDK? I doubt PDK can handle that kind of torque ... that's why the RS7 had to use the single clutch ZF8 over the DSG in the S6/7.

Nah, if it's set up properly it can be downright docile assuming a competent driver is at the helm.

AFAIK Panamera Turbo S uses PDK and has about 50lbs-ft more than RS7 Performance (590lbs-ft in Panamera Turbo S).

Has the 911 ever been the most powerful car in class? Seems very unlikely the GT2 will win the dyno war against the 675LT and 488. They didn't even play that game with the flagship 918. Chances are it will be the least powerful and yet quickest in class. You know, the usual.

Im hoping for 700 but expect 650. We are probably on the ragged edge of pdk power handling and rwd traction so electric boost to the front tires makes a lot of sense, although I think we are a little early to see it next year.

Open in separate tab for full size. Nothing new but larger format.

The thing is, they could try.

Some recent developments show that Porsche has not settled to quick and is still aiming for fast. The 718 S variants fall into that category.

If you spend enough money on e.g. really expensive turbochargers you can get a lot of horsepower out of the engine room available in the 991. Some of it would be due to higher heat resistance, which is tricky to do for reliability. Porsche could demonstrate their technical prowess by making that work reliably. Needs a big budget but the GT2 will be expensive for the consumer. So it cuts into the earnings from the GT2, which might be a price they are willing to pay.

Strange fender edges. It doesn't actually look like the wheels sit any wider..

The 992 development mule also has something similar.

Strange indeed. Clearly an on-the-fly fabrication to test something...

And what are the little triangular pieces on the underside of the 992 mule above?
